Hi guys, on Thursday night some people from back home came up to our Uni halls for a night out for my friends brithday. There is one person in my mates flat which they dont get along with. My mate had apparently wrote some letter and signed it from me thinking it would be funny. I had no idea about any of this until today when i get a call from another friend saying you'll be getting a call from the police about that letter my friend (tom) sent to the lass. I said what letter? And he explained, at this point I was fuming he'd done that. 5 mins later i get a call from some police woman saying she needs me to come to the police station to do an interview. I explained and said can you not just phone the guy who actually did it? Apprently she can't and still needs me to come in? It was clear on the phone that she still thought it was me even though my mate said he would tell her everything that happened and put himself forward. I've text him her number and he's going to call her and say. Anybody know what i can expect to happen at the interview? Also why do I have to go in when somebody has already admitted it?

Was very immature of him to send a letter I know.

Apparently it was an abusive letter. She said she needs to interview me under the harrasment act so something along those lines.

Is it normal for police to call you to attend an interview? I'd have thought they'd send someone round to see you.
Sure its not just a wind up?

Yeah i'm sure, she had a local accent and knew what she was going on about.

Go to the interview and take your "mate" with you, after you are done and he has explained to the police it was a stupid prank, push him in front of a bus.

Have you talked to the girl/flatmate in question?

What was the gist of the letter?

I sent her a facebook message as it's the only means of contact i had with her. I don't know what was in the letter as i've never seen it and only just found out it was sent today.

Just go to the interview. You have no choice really. If you didn't do anything wrong then no worries. Innocent until proven guilty.

And yes you have to go. All the interview will be is you and two police asking you questions while being recorded. Ask if you can bring someone with you to the interview.

First of all, Call the Police to verify that they called you for the interview.

If they did, then arrange for a Solicitor to attend with you, as you will likely be interviewed under caution.

If there was an abusive letter, and the recipient called the Police then they are not going to simply believe it wasn't you just because you say so. You will be arrested when you go to the Station and then interviewed under caution, probably they will take a DNA swab, photo and fingerprints prior to the interview.

Unfortunately you could potentially be in some trouble, I suggest you get proper legal counsel and verify with the Police Station, not via the number the alleged WPC gave you that they do indeed require you to give yourself up to custody.

It does seem rather strange that they called you, rather than seeing you personally.

Don't go to the interview, get them to come to you, at a time which is convenient to you.

If they ask to come in ask for a warrant :) youve done nothing wrong, so you can be as arsey as you like

Police involvement over a letter?!?! They dont even bother dealing with theft and GBH anymore.

Im going to start sending letters out in other peoples names, surely then it must have been those that sent it :\

Oh come on, if you got letters from some weirdo threatening to do nasty stuff to you then you'd want the police to take it seriously.
