Economical Family Car £9k

Hi All,

I'm after some suggestions, either using the full budget or banking a few £k. These are the criteria, so any help is appreciated.

*Economical on Fuel and VED
*Trouble-free motoring
*Reasonable service/parts costs
*Not a 'Banger' (Read: probably newer than 6-7 years old)
*Reasonable spec
*Family wagon - No 'fun' required.

Sorry I should have mentioned in the OP that it's for a female. Apparantly mondeos make ovaries explode due to their boringness to women.

This. From past experience Focus's seem to get through the 'Woman Logic' filter better than Mondeos. Something about Mondeos being to big or something?

Should be able to pick up a 2007/8 model for your budget, depends on whether you want a petrol or diesel. The 2.0 iVTEC petrol has poor performance and economy, wheras the 2.4 petrol has good performance, and the economy is only slightly less than the 2.0. The 2.2 diesel is the middle performer in terms of performance, but the economy is obviously much better.

Spec wise im not so sure of, but it seems to be base is EX then Sport then Type S.
