VEGAS!

Yeah solely flights. Will have a place to sleep covered. $6-7 doesn't sound too bad, about right for some pubs here. Would be tempted with a poker tourney, what sort of buy-ins are we talking? Or is it mainly cash tables?

tourneys everywhere from about $40-50 though anything below $100 is pretty much a donkfest

Yes it is.

As others have said, you didnt actually go to the Grand Canyon at all. You went to somewhere similar, thats well marketed, and run by a bunch of scammers.

How does this work then? Is it of similar size to the Grand Canyon but not it?

I was in Vegas on Friday (1st April), crazy place but glad I got lucky with the weather, lots of sun. You might have fun!

If you want an easy way to see the real Grand Canyon (south rim) I would reccommend a Viator air tour. 1 hour on a plane each way and they fly you over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam etc. It was worth it, I took a morning trip and was back on the strip by 12. Gave us two hours at the Canyon at a couple of different spots.

Nonsense. We are in April. The weather is perfect there right now. Mid 20's max during the peak of the day.

Actually I'd say that is the most essential part of the road trip.

Don't count on mid 20's, it peaked at 33c on 1st April and that was just in Vegas...

??

Monthly 'daytime' Average for Vegas in April is 26.

During the eve the monthly average for April is 12

Monthly daytime average for June, July & Aug is 39

It'll much be cooler in the Grand Canyon because you are 7000ft above sea level. Actually I'd go as far as to say you'll be cold there, since the temp dips below zero at night.

Daytime temp for the South Rim is around 15.

Dress accordingly OP. ;) That's pretty nippy !

Roger that doc :)

And funny you mentioned about spring break!

Currently recently single as is the friend Im going with :) Drunken college chicks here we come!

The flight there is probably the most sensible option, but I really like the idea of the long drive... top down, good tunes, good friends and amazing scenery, I think for me the drive is the point, the canyon is just a destination :) (all be it a very impressive one!)

call me crazy but it sounds like an adventure and even tho it may tire me out, Im not an old man, Im 26, Im pretty sure I can manage it?

and I kinda figured it wasent just "down the road" everything in the states/canada is such large scale these sort of distances are to be expected!

Oh and it does look like the bypass is open.. so may well skip the dam, will have to see how we do for time

How long are you in Vegas for? I would be more inclined to do the drive to LA and spend a night there then drive back if you are there for a decent period of time and set on a road trip- it's a very easy drive and you could do some of the LA sights...

Flight to South Rim- you are back by lunchtime with more Vegas time to play with.

We are there for 6 nights.

Id be a lot more interested in seeing the canyon really, isnt the drive to LA about the same distance as to the canyon?

Drunken college chicks here we come!

hope you realise how the Vegas nightlife works :p

unless you are prepared to drop hundreds a night in a club most of the girls won't give you a second glance and getting into decent clubs is difficult/expensive for blokes on their own

We will have a girl with us :P

We are meeting 2 friends there, a couple.

Yeah Ive checked out the cover charges, pretty steep!

Never know, might win big! :)

Either that or Ill just tell them I went to school with Price William and am hung like a donkey, one of which is a lie ^^

ah things should be a bit easier, there are still many places where the cover charge means nothing and if you want to get in you are looking at bottle service or bribing the doormen

if you fancy giving bottle service a go I can recommend Blue Martini at the town square area, Fridays nights $150 + tip for litre of decent vodka with all mixers, this will get you a table too in a place that is rammed

So i'm going to be there around the 2nd May - 13th May. I'm staying at the Platinum Hotel with friends until the 7th and then i'm on my own (conference).

Am I right in thinking that the later you leave it the cheaper the rooms get? Is that still the way with Vegas as i've still not booked rooms for the 7th onwads

Thanks for the tip Rotty!

If we do go to some clubs we will probably grab some booze and drink in our hotel rooms first, as there will be 4 of us staying in the Strat we could hit up some poker practise in one of our rooms and have some drinks beforehand :) Then all we will have to really worry about is the cover charge!

If you want to meet girls forget the nightclubs. They go to dance and steal drinks guys have paid through the nose for. See http://www.bottlepirate.com/

Go to bars, the girls will be more accessible and you'll actually be able to talk to them since the music won't be deafeningly loud. And you won't have to pay $400 for a bottle of Grey Goose to get in.

Sounds like a better plan flat!
Im not really into clubbing anyway, but may hit a couple up just to see what its like! :)

Any bars you recommend in Vegas out of interest?
