Hi,

Can anyone tell me what either of these areas are like to live in?

Thanks

Really? I thought Hither Green was meant to be OK but just incredibly boring?

Yea Hither Green over Ladywell, just. I got property in both those places, i wouldnt want to live there though. Remember you are basically in Lewisham, which is a khazi.

Ok thanks, just really wondering which areas of London are not yet ridiculously expensive and nice-ish to live in... Not many by the looks of things.

Want a bit of advice? Penge, very under rated and very little drama, unlike Lewisham.

Neither are nice places to live. I know both areas very well and I wouldn't live there.

If you're thinking long term and weighing up pro's and cons, assuming you work in London, I'd personally take the inconvenience of a longer commute to live somewhere nicer.
Bromley (most of it anyway) is nicer, as are parts of Bexley.

If you're prepared to think even further out, places in Kent are better still.

Any more info you can give us on where you're moving from, reason for move, are you commuting and if so where to etc?

I work from home, but my wife works in the city. She wants to live quite 'centrally'. We live in Greenwich now (Really near Maze Hill station), but I refuse to pay the rip- off prices houses go for around there (Or Blackheath), I am not buying anything for quite a while yet anyway, but just thinking about places.

Hes going to have to move deep into Kent to get similar rent to Lewisham.

Bromley and Bexley are both going to come to more money.

Mate of mine bought a flat in Ladywell a few months back, it's essentially Lewisham (not nice), but I don't have the heart to tell him.

The flat itself is lovely though!

Depends. Sydenham and Penge still seem reasonable (and do have some nice parts), although rents have risen significantly with the opening of the East London line.

Ladywell and Hither Green are fine, they have their rough areas and nice parts. Just try to stay away from the rough parts and the main roads.
Parking may also be an issue because Lewisham are a bunch of greenie numptons.

Edit: Forest Hill is also 'up and coming' so you might want to check it out too.

Live in Lee myself which is next door. Some nice parts and slightly more 'ghetto' parts - like most places I think the general area is quite hit and miss (Petts Wood.......Eltham) but never had a problem or being worried about my safety. Just stay away from the Ferrier estate ;).

I'd rather have the worst place in a nice area than a nice place in a **** hole! :p

Its being demolished is it not?

Has it? I'll be honest - only moved into the area mid last year and the two brothers I live with kept banging on about all the trouble that comes from there - neither mentioned it was demolished lol.
