Right then, i bought a set of ram from here:

4gb (2 x 2gb) Corsair XMS3 1600MHz Dual channel 9,9,9,24

Then, i saw another set on the bay and thought - why not, they are going cheap, and now they have arrived, i realised why:

4gb (2 x 2gb) Corsair XMS3 1600MHz Triple channel 9,9,9,24

The guy has sent me two sticks of 2gb ram from a triple channel kit!!!

This is meant to be going into my SB 2500k System!!!

How would that even worked if i put it in?!

HELP PLEASE!

I agree - it's the same ram, what is the issue?

The fact they came from dual or triple channel packs doesn't matter, as long as they are the same spec sticks.

What you going on about the ram isnt programmed its up the IMC to determince if they are ran in triple or dual mode and as SB is only double then that is how it will run.

There is no problem here.

The RAM isn't programmed to run in triple or dual channel mode - that is all handled by the motherboard and CPU. The memory is just memory. A triple channel kit is just a set of three sticks which are made together. The sticks themselves are physically no different than the sticks in a dual channel kit of the same spec/type, there just happens to be one more in a triple channel kit.

Short answer - your two sticks from a triple channel kit will run fine in dual channel mode.

What were you expecting? 2 x 2
4/3?
You can still use the sticks like daz says, but you've made the mistake based on one word.
They were probably cheap as most likely they run at the older 1.8v spec.

OHHHHH! *relieved face*

I thought there was a chip on, for instance the triple channel, that said - im working at this speed, looking for two other matched modules and until then i am running in single channel

I am so glad you have cleared that up, so i should so it:

Bank 1: dual channel
Bank 2: triple channel
Bank 3: dual channel
Bank 4: triple channel

this will work as two sets of dual channel?
