Looking for visually stunning blu rays to rent

If you're looking to test your sub then The war Of The worlds (Spielberg,Cruise version) is amazing in this department.

For all round stunning sound and video then the pixar films take some beating, wall e, Cars, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc, Toy Story 1,2,3 all look and sound superb, great demo discs.

Bond Casino royale, POTC trilogy, Peter Jacksons King Kong, Band Of Brothers Box set, Watchmen, I robot, 2001 Space Odyssey are also demo worthy in both sound and video imo.
 
In terms of picture you cant go wrong with The Dark Knight, especially the IMAX scenes. I'd also say I Am Legend after watching that last night. Those two are my favourites.

You also have Avatar, the Toy Story films and the Shrek films all of which look very nice as well. I haven't watched my copy of Inception yet (waiting for a special occasion to crack that one open) but I'm sure that looks great as well.

For sound I'd go with Gladiator & what may surprise you Taken, the bullet sounds in that film with the volume cranked up just adds to the violence :p
 
For excellent PQ & SQ it has to be Transformers, shame about the actual movies though. Saving Private Ryan has immense sound, and the picture, while grainy is very good.
 
Avatar is ridiculously stunning on BluRay. I would also recommend any of the Pixar animations, and the parts shot in IMAX in the Dark Knight are quite something to behold.

Anyone got the new Star Trek on Blu-Ray, I have it ordered but just wondering how the transfer was :)

Definitely going to get avatar and district 9.
 
Star Trek on Blu-Ray is extremely crisp, definitely gives both the TV and surround sound a good workout. The opening battle brings a tear to the eye,

As previously mentioned Dark Knight is great for the Imax shots.

Fifth Element is great simply due to its loud pallet and bombastic soundtrack, the UK release is due soon but it can be picked up on import for less than a tenner.

Blade Runner is the daddy though. It should be in every film lovers collection and every Blu-ray collection. If you can afford it, import it from the States (it works on normal players over here) as the US edition has pretty much every release of the film they made, the UK edition is a poor man's release.
 
I was looking at blade runner... I've heard it's pretty good and was going to ask about it, will have to pick it up.
 
Thanks that looks great, some of those comparisons are quote astonishing, such difference for such an old film.

Definitely remember the DVD version looking quite pants, will be great to watch it again with such great looking visuals!

The old version shouldn't be available anywhere as it's been withdrawn for a while. you might end up with an older copy if you buy secondhand but new you should be fine.

New Star trek is great. Really bold colours and great visuals.
