Anyone have experience of these two tyres?

My TT currently has some Pirrelli P Zero Rosso's on the front and even at barely above the wear markers they were noticebly better than my nearly new Falken Fk452's when on the front so im looking to replace them with a good quality tyre. Falkens imo arent all theyre cracked up to be.

Ive narrowed it down to these two tyres unless anyone has any better suggestions? Ideally id like to pay around £220 for the 2 tyres (225 40 18)

All feedback welcome.

Thanks,

Russ

The FK452's get more press than they deserve IMHO mostly because they are really cheap so people love to think they are amazing to justify saving 200+ on a set of tyres.

The Pirelli's are the tyre which many **** but I've always found them to be excellent. Had them on the Mustang, excellent, got them on the Porsche excellent.

I'd say they are not a particular master of anything, but they are very good in the dry, good in the wet, have excellent wear rates and for a performance car they have quite stiff tyre sidewalls making them good for feedback etc.

The CS3 will no doubt perform better in the wet and be around on par in the dry, but there is a chance that the sidewalls may indeed be softer and they will no doubt wear quicker. So for improved wet grip you may trade car responsivness and turn in, so depends on what you want.

In regards to the Falken 452 they are a good budget performance tyre, but now your talking premium top grade tyres and those are tyres the Falkens simply can't compete with as you've found out.

^ Completely agree Fox. I bought the Falkens based on all the good feedback they were getting. IIRC i paid around £150 for two (delivered, not fitted) so around £165 inc fitting. I can get two P Zero Rosso's for around £210 inc fitting. Hardly a huge saving and the difference is noticeable even when comparing nearly new to barely legal.

If the Pirelli's worked well on both a Mustang and a 911 then ive no doubt theyll be excellent on a TT. Seems the Pirelli's are the way to go. I must admit i do like the Pirelli's, i just wondered if there was a better option out there for similar money.

I took P-Zero Rossos of our A3 when they only had 4k on them I found them that bad. They were replaced by Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s at the time which transformed the car into what it should have been. Out of the two I would have SC3s without a doubt.

I have Conti's all round, and I'm impressed with them so far. But going from the tyres the previous owner had on, anything would have been better.

I have just slapped CS3's all round on my ST and they are great, i had CS2's but they were eaten alive by the car.

Hopefully the wear on the CS3's will be better.

Indeed, the Sport Contacts aren't known for great wear :D

OP - if you can get your hands on the regular P Zero (not the rosso) that's the better tyre, if not one of the best tyres on the market at the moment.

I went to CS3s on the remapped Golf GTi and they are a very good tyre overall. However, they don't offer as much grip in the dry or the wet as the Eagle F1 Assyms that were on the car before.

I would go for the Eagle F1 Assym 2s for ultimate grip (dry or wet) or CS3s if you want an overall excellent tyre all round. Pirelli in my book (for my tyre size) is not even worth looking at as far as I am concerned.

Well ive just gone against both my original tyre choices and ordered two Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. £232 for both inc mobile fitting tomorrow. Very pleased with the price if im honest. Reviews on them also seem to better than both the Pirelli & Continental

You shouldn't be disappointed. I drove on the F1 A2s, Sport Contact 5Ps and S001's back to back on an A7 and the F1 A2's were the best of the bunch in every way.

Glad you made a well informed choice ;) Let us know how you get on after they have run in!
