looking to spend around 2.5k on something very dull. needs to be very cheap to run, does a few motorway miles. Replaceing a 2001 punto, which apprantly was fine on a motorway?

I have been tasked with finding this car, but as i have no experiance with dull practical cars i thought i ought to take sugggestions!

I am going to assume this is for a woman. In which case, a Focus or a Fiesta if they were happy with a Punto.

Vauxhall = bad on this forum :p
To be honest, I think they are solid enough and reliable cars. They are kind of soulless to drive though. I'd stick with a ford.

In the last few years my family has been through 2 Mk2 Mondeo's that were under a grand each, a nearly new Fiesta for £7k, and more recently a few year old Fiesta for £3k and an 02 Fiesta for £1k.

They fit the requirements of 'a car' perfectly.

Engine recomendations for relaibilty and economy thanks

1.4 petrol for each except for the focus where you want the 1.6

Avoid anything smaller if there are motorway miles to be done (yes the 1.25 ford engine is good, but not for the motorway). Avoid the ford 1.3

The clio can come with a 1.5? diesel which is supposed to be good.
