Can someone please explain WWE to me?

anyone see the documentary louis theroux did on wrestling. He had the cheek to thell them its not rea and they are all fakers

They were so annoyed as quite rightly they spend their whole lifes in gyms and work damn hard. They made him train with them and he passed out and was puking everywhere

you can watch the episode here. Its a great watch and you get to see how much of an athlete these guys are

So? It's sports "entertainment". Sport being used as entertainment.

Pretending to be a sport doesn't make it one. It's more akin to a circus.

Not that I disparage the physical prowess of the 'wrestlers'. I took my son to see some 2nd division outfit, (compared to WWE), and was absolutely gobsmacked at the level of co-ordination/skill. Really surprised me how real it looked live.

It's not pretending to be a sport. It is using sport to entertain people.

its like eastenders but more violent and waxed men. They have a story line for the whole thing. Secondly, if you want to watch real wrestling then have a look at UFC.

No, WWE is not using sport.

If Man Utd and Chelsea had manufactured last night's spectacle and pretended to compete with each other then that would not have been sport either.

Just because a pretence is based on an activity that is a legitimate sport in different circumstances, doesn't make that pretence a sport.

So kicking a ball around for 90 mins even though the 2 teams would have know the result was always gonna be a man utd win, would not be sport?
What would that 90 mins be then?

Kind of funny that I used to think it was real, I want to be 8 again! It's not a sport no, it's a very violent soap opera with big men in budgie smugglers.

I enjoy UFC but the problem with UFC is the main event can be over with a knockout in the first round. With wrestling, they can plan the event to make it entertaining (most of the time anyway.)

What I find funny is the fact that something like darts/poker is a sport. Kinda puts a spin on things.

Really though, what ******* difference does it make if it is a sport or not? Maybe throw this thread and the wwe one into the tv forum as I think it does fit in there better.

Darts and poker are not sports - games of skill for sure and to do well at either requires more than luck but they're not sports.

They're on the sports channels. I did some research on google and my sources say they're both sports.

It's for people who want an excuse to stare at men in tight pants! :p

and real men watch ufc and boxing. :p

poker is on all sorts of channels. sky just prefer to put it on sports. you'll also see it on c4, c5 and lots of other random channels at times!

That's as maybe but any game I can play with a pint in my hand and up to a certain point find that I improve at it doesn't meet the criteria of being a sport for me. Same goes for pool/snooker - it's a game of great skill but it's a game.

I may be in a minority on this one but I can live with that.
