Im a PC gamer who wants to get a console for the living room to make house more gamer-friendly. Whic

nobody can decide which console is the better option, both of them are practically the same anyway.

Online Gaming - 360
Reliability - PS3
Games - Even
Control Pads - Even
Cost - Even
Media Capabilities - PS3 (mainly due to blu-ray)
Looks - Even
Graphics - Even

i prefer the ps3, simply due to my 360 dieing 3 times, i think those problems are now fixed but, i wont be buying xbox of the future on launch, wait a year and see if there are any issues, if so, i'll wait the 2/3 years before a fix arrives.

not sure I agree with all of that;

360 definitely has the better pads, they are so much more ergonomical.
The cost is also on the side of the 360 (for offline use).
I'd say also that the PS3 looks the better console.

The only way the OP is going to do this and come to a decision, is if he looks through the games on each platform and picks the one which ticks the most boxes in terms of games.

PS3 for Buzz (fantastic fun) and of course Singstar as well as the various Move multiplayer games - wins hands down IMO....

EDIT

8 player Buzz - that's where the party's at!

Xbox has Scene it, Lips and the far superior Kinect.

Buzz is good fun though :)

Buzz is indeed a heck of an argument for the PS3, if it's mainly to be used for group gaming.

However, the 360 also has the Scene It! games, which are best if your friends are also movie geeks.

There's also "You Don't Know Jack" for trivia, which supports Scene It!s big button controllers.

I had a PC and 360. I found many of the good 360 games ended up on PC in time anyway. The PS3 had games that weren't coming to PC so I sold my 360 and bought a PS3 to give me more choice when it comes to games. I also think the PS3 is better with the BluRay if you want a good movie set-up. BluRay + Surround Sound = movie bliss.

PS3 gives more choice. I guess the transition from PC to console would be easier with the 360 though.

This is simple to answer -

If you game on your own PS3
If you game online 360
If you want to use only when friends come round whichever is cheapest!

I have both and can safely say they are almost 100% even in every aspect. Dunno why people keep saying xbox live is better for online its just the same for me as PSN, they both have zero lag.

I prefer the PS3 for its blue ray player, free online and i know more people with a PS3 than 360. But if I knew more people with a 360 I would probaly play it more lol

My advice:

Check out the games for each console
ask your friends what they got (so you can play them online)

All I know is, the XBox 360 only has about three games total that are 4 player split screen and most of those are rubbish and/or kiddy. I dont know if its different in PS3 land but imo its one of the suckiest features of the xbox.

Happy with 2 player coop? Get an xbox
Want to play with more people without requiring another system and display? Get anything else

not as simple as that, everybody's taste is different.

i game online and i have both a 360 and ps3, but i havent renewed my 360 sub ever since i got my ps3. so i would choose ps3 for online since its free. although the experience is better on the 360, sony made a huge mistake with the ps3, not bundling a cheap USB or BT mic with the console and upping the price by £5 to cover the costs.

this would have made their online scene. the amount of people who dont have a mic on ps3 is amazing, im astonished.

I too have both and thank god more people don't have mic's on the PS3 as the coms quality is awful, I am also disappointed with the online as some cross platform games don't stand up to the their rival counterpart.

I also have no idea why you have not renewed your xbl sub as the friends set up on live is 10x better than the PS3 by using the party mode, but as you said everyones taste is different but by the sounds of the op he does have friends that like to game if they too are in the market for a console for social online gaming the 360 wins hands down sorry.

If you will be playing the latest games, the PS3 is going to have a ton more exclusives this year compared to the xbox. There is a list somewhere, I'll do some digging.

Media Capabilities - PS3 (mainly due to blu-ray)
.

I would say the PS3 blows the 360 out of the water on Media Capabilities.

PS3 Media Server
BD
Converted movies straight off the HD
Music player,
Upgradeable HD.

I have one sat by each TV in the house, so good are its media capabilities.
