I renewed the insurance for my scooter about a week ago. However I've had a letter drop through my door today from the insurance broker saying that I have not disclosed 2 previous claims to the insurer. The first of which happened 3 years ago. I had an accident but no claim was ever put forward ( I wont go into it now). I haven't declared this because I thought it wast relevant since it cost the insurance company nothing, though they did know about it. My no claims remained intact, but on this letter it is shown as a fault claim.
The second accident was a couple of years ago, totally non fault (parked car got hit by a neighbour) and settled perfectly. However I must have forgotten to tell them at renewal.

Now they (the broker) are asking me to ring up and discuss this with them and that the actual insurer has asked for the reason, in writing, why this wasn't disclosed and a copy of my driving licence.

I'm really worried. I don't know where I stand and I haven't set out to knowingly defraud anyone. Will they refuse me insurance? Take me to court, or just hike the price?

You are asked to disclose this information when you take the policy out, and you are also asked to confirm all the information you have given them is truthful.

They may well cancel your policy if they are unhappy as to the reason you give them for not disclosing. Make sure you tell them what you've told us. Don't spin it, just be completely honest.

Before you call, phone your previous insurer for clarification about that claim you think was never a claim. It may well be that they paid out to the third party without telling you, and therefore its now a fault claim against you.

I'm surprised they could pay out to a third party on your policy with them without ever telling you?!

Mind you, car insurance companies are a law unto themselves!

I will do that if it comes to it, but I highly doubt they paid out. The car that hit me was insured, but the person driving it wasn't. Also I retained my no claims for that year, so surely they couldn't have paid out?
Also if this claim sure you declared, is it worth me ringing my car insurer also and telling them? They know about the non fault car claim but not about the above one.
Also would a policy cancellation count as refusal of insurance? I really will be up **** creek then.
