One in particular is starting to get annoying, threatening to take it to court and, when we contacted them on the phone, advised US to track the person who owed the debt?! Returning letters to sender had no effect by the way.

I will be calling the CAB tomorrow but are there any official pages with advice for this issue of debt for a previous owner or tenant? My google skills have only found yahoo answers etc. A template letter with some legal threats would be good too?

Thanks

Residential or business premisses? I'd call them out, ring up and tell them you'll see them in court, but I'm argumentative!

This is what Id do, but then I dont value my time too much. Could probably claim back your time and costs from them which would be fun too :p If they asked me to try and track the guy down Id ask what their commission are like!

We used to have problems with debt collectors, took sending them a copy of our tenancy agreement and council tax bill to prove the person they were after no longer lived there.

Their legal beef is with the named, not you, I'd laugh in their face.

Fax them a scanned image of your bum.

i have had this before, i had to show them ID and a rent book yo prove to them i just moved in.
i know i didn't have to do this, but i just wanted to be smug and get rid

Dear Sirs
Harassment by telephone

FORMAL COMPLAINT UNDER THE CONSUMER CREDIT ACT 2006 COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE

Account Number: XXXXXXX

I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.

I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls.(Delete if necessary)

I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.

I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.

Please treat this also as a formal complaint, and send me a copy of your company complaints procedure.

Be advised that any furthertelephone calls from your company will be recorded. (**Even if you don‘t yet have recording equipment!!**)

Yours faithfully,

Actually how about this one - assuming the debt collection company is a ltd company - find the owner via company's house, get his home phone number, every time they call you phone him at home to make a personal complaint about it.

Give the letters back to your postman.

Or just give them to your recycle bin and forget about them - there is absolutely no need to get involved whatsoever with letters which are not addressed to yourself :p OP: Why have you even phoned the debt collection agencies!?

Letter.... It won't work, they'll just get passed on to another debt collector.

Return the post "not at address" and offer for one of their reps to come round and see ID if you really want it to stop.

They're still chasing tenants from here that moved out 5+ years ago :o
