Hi guys im after a new TV, would like a 50" for around £700, Can anyone recommend anything? The TV will be used for Gaming and Blurays mainley, Dont watch much tv, would plasma or led be best for me?

cheers, Dan

Just been thinking, If im gonna spend £700 i can get a 1080p projector for a little bit more, but It will be projecting from only 2.7 meters away, Will this be ok or is the distance too short?

A projector at that price point isn't going to be that hot. TV for day to day and then save up for a proper projector. That's the way I'm playing it.

what about a 3d tv, not sure how good it is but have seen a Samsung PS50C680 50 Inch 3D Full HD Freeview Plasma TV for around that price.

Its 2 year old tech.

it may be 2 year old tech but untill the reviews come out of the gt/v30 it is still far better then the 2009/2010 models!it didnt have the MLL rises, the 50hz bug, postrization or DFC(dynamic false contouring) and was of far better build quality.my pioneer is 3year old tech and it is still far far superior than ANYTHING that is out today and will be for at least another year

Think im going to play it safe and get the G20, I dont know enough about projectors (good and bad) to get one just yet

thats still a 'decent' time frame if the unit is to be used e.g. only in the evenings, for maybe average of 6 hours a day.

at six hrs a day the lamp would only last just under 2 years most people would be quite unhappy a shelling out an extra £200 every 2 years,i wouldnt shell out £200 to have my tv fixed every two years

Yeah I would be too, but a) it's not a tv and b) it's not fixing it, it's replacing a consumable part. Like car tyres.

For some it may be worth it, for others maybe not

So I should avoid 1080p projectors for around £700-£800?

Not all together maybe find a secondhand JVC HD1 which is an awesome projector for the money probably around £700 used to be £2500 I have a HD100 and use a CRT tele for normal viewing although people are right for general usage projectors are not really usable for everyday usage, but for thrills and treats it makes for a nice viewing experience. Also projected onto a wall at 100" is very impressive :)
