So my first year of driving is over and Tesco as I expected asked for even more this year to renew, £1700 ->£1880ish so I phoned them and said thanks but no thanks etc, so my proof of NCB has just arrived and it says two years. Am I missing something or is this a mistake? I'm over the moon with having one NCB so seeing a two next to that sentence is just too good to be true right? or am I just wrong in how NCB works? and this April marks my first full year driving.

Its pretty obvious? I'd rather not get caught out! especially since when I enter how long I've been driving for as 1year exactly.

Did they let you build up the first year no claims, while learning on a provisional licence on someone else's policy?

Would seem unlikely though.

Personally I'd phone up and get clarification, as I'm always cautious of invalidating the insurance policy.

Yeah I'll call up later, they've made so many mistakes. I've had to have a certificate of insurance re-done 3 times before now for typos. That's the service I've got for £1700 this year!

Dont be ridiculous.

If the cert/proof says two years, then thats all your next insurer needs to know.

God almighty, people complain about getting ripped off, when they go and rip themselves off!!

His new insurer will know he only passed his test last year.
They may accept the no claims of 2 years now, but if he has an accident that is going to cost them a lot of money, then they will likely inspect his policy more closely.
They may then try to argue that he must have known he couldn't have built up 2 years no claims, in his first year.

It could then possibly become a messy legal affair. I'd personally prefer not to take the chance.

the problem is that when an insurer sees that he held the license for 1 year and has 2 years NCB it will look a a bit weird and they will start asking questions in the event of a claim.

If he had had the license for 2 years then I'd ask no further questions. ;)

LE:beaten to it.

So what? NCB is not connect to how long you have/have not had a driver's license. You could have 15 years of completely valid NCB and still be on a provisional...

seeing as your old enough to have 2 years ncb, depends on how you live your life, if you like everything to be above board then i would ring up tesco to see if there is a reason, just ring and ask them to confirm how many years ncb you left with they will either say one or two, or dont tell your insurance company, they might get wind of it..... worst case scenerio is your policy cancelled from inception no refund for premium and having to advised you been turned away for insurance from another company :)

Which is why I suggested in my first post that he check whether they are valid or not.

I just think that if they're not valid, then he's potentially making trouble for himself.

Been driving 10 years but I have 11 years no claims. In my first year I was on an accelerated no claims bonus scheme, so for the first year if I stayed clean I got 2 years no claims. Changed insurers after the first year and my new company just accepted the 2 years ncb. Perhaps you were on similar without realising?

Really? claiming ignorance wouldn't help me if things went **** up would it?

Just phoned Tesco, got bounced around to different departments and still don't have a bloody confirmation on what's what, and they hung up on me! just for trying to do the right thing I have to deal with more crap/shocking customer service from them.

Some insurers (i don't know if they still do this) used to give a years no claims if you'd done the Pass Plus course. As a result, my first insurance policy included 1 year NCB. I'm now up to 7 years NCB with 6 years driving.

Keep quiet, you'll be fine!

I work for the company that underwrites Tesco policies, there are a few reasons why you could have 2 years NCD, are you 25 or over?

If your honest just get the quote for a year ncb and send them the two year certificate, don't waste your time trying to get Tesco to change it.
