Hey guys,

I only have two spare 5.25 bays in my machine but will soon have three 3.5 sata hard drives, Im looking for some thing like This but ovbioulsy cheaper and simpler! Any ideas?

Kind of, problem being i only have 2 spare 5.25 bays, but will have three 3.5 hdd's So a caddy of some sort is what i am after!

3mm or 4mm bungee shock cord. A quiet and incredibly cheap solution provided you have a little airflow through your 5.25" bays.

yep, cant believe the only ones i can find are £70+ like the one on overclockers... gap in the market i think!

im very surprised by this too.

the only cheaper options i can see are to get two 5.25 -> 3.5 inch adapters that i linked previously and either:
- house 1 outside the case with some sort of external HDD case thing
- find a 3.25" HDD cage which will house 1 HDD that can be screwed into your case somewhere

Do you have space at the bottom/floor of your case?
If you got you can use this to mount one of the drive to the bottom Zalman ZM-2HC2 you may need to drill 4 hole to fit the screw though.
and use this to mount the other 2 to your 5.25 bay Akasa Hard Drive Dampener 3.5" - 5.25"

Cheers, yeah i think im going to have to bodge something! Thankfully my dads a engineer and good with things like this :P

Makes you want to start a company to fill the gap and make some money doesn't it!

Go to the icy dock site, there are different models made by different OEM's that vary in price somewhat, but not a huge amount. My 5 in 3 made by Jou Jou or whoever cost me £80 a month ago, the Icy dock one was £115-£135, my icy dock one (cremax version) was only something like £65 when I bought it 3 years ago with my pc.

google for a "sata backplane" as thats what they are.

Members market occasionally has these for sale as well at around th £50 mark, but its not going to be cheaper than that since the metal and electronics simply cost some monies, and not many consumers purchase them (server workstation use mainly) so they arent mass produced :(

Just stick two of your SSD's together, and mount them in a conversion bay. Then have one seperate. They don't generate any heat or vibrate... so all is well. I ran mine like that for a while until I got a new case.... which may be a cheaper and better option for you than spending 80 quid on a bay.

he said they are all 3.5" HDD's, so am i missing something from another thread?
