considering a change e61

I'm considering changing my e61 for an.........e61

I have a 2005 523i with somewhere around 50k on the clock. It's a manual SE

I am considering a change for three reasons

1)I think it's probably going to fall off a real depreciation cliff as it's now a model and a face lift behind

2)I quite fancy an auto (and my wife does even more than me)

3)I fancy something faster (and yes Fox told me this would happen )

Now the E61 is pretty much the perfect car for me, I have 2 small kids and 2 small dogs, so estate is a must and a 3 series or equivalent is too small. The only other option really is an E class but I've never driven one. I don't want an audi.

We only do about 7-10k miles a year, so don't see much point in going to a diesel. Mostly around surrey, no commuting, but then the odd long jaunt to the Alps.

So I fancy getting an 07 or later (i understand this was the LCI?) e61 530i

I don't want to take any finance so an f10 is not going to happen unless I wait a bit.

Any thoughts? Is this a stupid move born out of an itch to change for the sake of it? The 523i isn't horrifically slow really, you do have to be heavy footed to get anything out of it though.

I have just seen a well specced 2007 530i SE for approx 6k more than mine is worth part ex

Same spec as mine (leather, upgraded alloys, upgraded climate, aux in) plus following I don't have bluetooth, multi changer cd, heated seats, better trim

so let me ask the question a different way (since no response from 90 views )

Is it worth spending 6k or so, for 2 years newer, 100hp more (ish), auto and a few extra bits and bobs?

Whats the point, you put up with a manual before whats changed?

You dont seem like a skint member to me, spend 20k and get a nice upgrade, what your doing there is going side and up a bit.

The more expensive the car, the more it will depreciate. No E60 is depreciation proof, the newer they are, the harder they will fall.

Completely reasonable on both counts! I will leave it alone until I have in mind a better reason to change and a better car to change to.
