Hi,

I would like to know which motherboard you would choose, as I have read many threads on problems with the asus mb, but I have read a few on the Gigabyte mb as well.

I think sometimes it is down to luck if you just end up with a bad board, but any help would be appreciated.

I have to admit I like the look of the new efi bios on the asus, but is the Gigabyte bios just as easy to navigate ?

MSI or Gigabyte would be better, far better customer service, stay away from Asus !!!

Dont worry about the bios on the Asus, just a gimmick as far as i'm concerned, i have found that if you use the mouse to set values in the bios that they will not save for some reason, you need to use the keyboard instead.

B3 revisions of all the boards have ironed out most of the little bugs and irritents that where present in the first releases. Just go for the board maker that you feel most comfortable with.

In the P67 chip set I like the Gigabyte boards, mainly because I do not trust the EFI bios as yet and the Gigabyte board I use is perfect for my needs.

Find what functions you want and need, ring fence those boards which have those functions and then use price or maker to decide. And Oma-Lan-DP is certainly right about one thing, the customer care of Gigabyte is top notch.

I know this is off topic, but can anyone please answer this question, what good cpu cooler would fit this ud 4 motherboard, as space seems to be quite tight around the cpu.
I did post this question in the cooler overclock section, but no one ever seems to answer my question.

Thanks again for all your help.

Ps I forgot to mention I will be running an i7 2006k overclocked.

I have that mobo with a Gelid Tranquillo and it covers the first DIMM slot. I ended up using DIMM slots 3 and 4. The Tranquillo is quite a big cooler though.

What is your budget?

There are a couple of really good coolers (air) that will suit depending on budget.

Hi,

I dont mind spending up to £50 or so on a good cooler, total budget for my new system is £1500 including monitor.

The reason I am asking is, I will also be running G.Skill Ripjaw X 8GB 1600MHz C9 Memory Kit, so got to factor in memory slots as well and my system will be running 24/7.

the h50 - h70 are good coolers, give plenty room inside. so no ram slot problems.
should keep your new kit nice & cool.
what have read, the 2500k 2600k run real cool without a top end cooler as well

I've used the Venom on a UD4 and the UD5 and with most of the good air coolers, it covers the first ram slot. This is not limited to Gigabyte though.

I like Noctua coolers but the Venom keeps my i5k cool at 58 max full load at 4.5KHz.

Yes indeed in that case you need to take into account the hight of your ram. The best option would be one of the pre-built water cooling system. The H50/70 or the Antec 620 920 are all made by the same OEM company. So have a look at those and see what works for you. The H70 and the920 are the bigger brothers of the H50 and 620. I think there is another one of that kind out there but for the life of me I can not remember the brand name. I bought a Antec 620 when they first came out and used it in a gaming build with the Sniper board. So I know it works well at 4GHz on a hot CPU.

Personally I like good air coolers more than the water kits I mentioned. The Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B CPU Cooler is my top pick. If your ram is 2 x 4GB then use the second and forth slot for your ram and go the Pro Meg route. Better cooling (but it is only a degree or two improvement) over the water kits.

Enjoy your new set up.

Hi,

My ram will be 2x4GB of ram and I already looked at that very cooler the Prolimatech Megahalems on a thread here, someone was showing pictures of the inside of there case and they were using the exact same cooler.

Can you tell me what fan to choose with this and which clips to choose and how many.

Thanks again.

Ps Could you give me a link to the fans you are talking about.

The cooler comes with two sets of clips for two fans. The fans I used are from Scythe Kaze range. The ones I use are not in stock. 1900 RPM. I went for the best CFM vs price.
