Just had an accident...

Done the same thing twice, when I was much younger - about 10 yrs ago.

Remember though - it's only metal and no one was hurt (at least not seriously).

Yeah I'm surprisingly calm and laid back about it all

The biggest annoyance for me is the no claims but rather it happen when I have 2 than when it was at 5

someone crashed into me when i had a 98 punto about 6 years ago, my boot wasnt to bad (was dinted and scratched) and her 05 astra was fine (not even a scratch). i thought i'd be nice and i told her i wouldnt claim. next thing i know i had admiral on the phone about the accident, she was claiming a new front bumper new wings new tyres everything saying it was my fault. i took photos of the accident on my mobile and sent the pics in. i dont think she got anything after that lol. oh and because she made a claim they told my insurance and i had to pay an extra £50 a year for 3 years for being involved in an accident!. bah.

i was young and didnt really know what was going on, looking back i kinda wish i did claim. had that punto for 2 years after that accident ^^

at least the spot light is ok,

might pay u to troll scrap yards for the bits, and get them sprayed and fitted by a local garage. could save u a lot

Learnt the same lesson myself about 12 months ago.

Just because it's completely clear and they start to pull-out, don't assume they're going to continue without stopping to put on their make-up or whatever.

Looks like more damage than I was expecting though :(.

So parts list:

1 x Front Bumper
1 x Front Kerbside Wing
1 x Headlight Cluster
1 x Bonnet
+Other miscelaneous parts such as bump stops that will probably have creased (the crash protection behind the bumper thats designed to deform on impact to reduce the forces on the passenger cabin)

Thing is, if you do the repairs outside the insurance, you could probably avoid replacing the front wing and bonnet, and just have the panels pulled back out, fill them, then repaint them.

So you'd need

yes its tatty, but it needs repainting anyway. By the time you've paid somebody to respray it, you can pay them to tidy it up too, and transfer over your lights, trim etc..

One of these

Then pay the bodyshop to pull the panels and fill them. You could possibly have her and your damage done for well under 2k. Is it worth going cash to avoid going back to 0 NCB. What would your premium be next year with 0NCB and next year with 1 years NCB ?

Too much damage to cough up in cash, that wings never going to be right just pulling, hes going to end up with an obvious repair if thats not done right.

Plus whatever the womans damage is, saying that i dont know Steedies financial position is.

Lol at the online repair estimator with x-ray vision.

I know its not going to be accurate, and we can only guess.

But if he has the ability to get the cash, it may work out cheaper than insuring the car next year with 0 years ncb and the year after that with 1 year ncb.

Ultimately the difference between the repair figure and cost in increased premium needs to be weighed up.

If its only a few hundred, then you may as well let the insurance handle it and have brand new metal.

But if its in the thousands, then its worth considering sourcing parts yourself second hand etc.. to keep costs down.

Go through insurance. You are 25 not 15, the increase in insurance costs over the next few years will not be anywhere near what it will cost to even bodge all of that and fix the woman's car.

I've gone through insurance now

Car is at the garage being repaired. Awaiting my courtesy car

It might sting me in higher insurance for a few years, but my excess was much lower than the cost of repair (to do it properly) and not to mention fix hers so might as well use it
