Royal Visit to Ireland, this was always going to happen. . .

What is that photo about?

Please don't use the word WE in regards to the past. Some of us had nothing to do with the history of the British empire.

I hate it when people talk about history like it happened to them, when the truth is it probably happened many many many many years before they were around.

edit: wow didn't know about that photo....

She would have to visit Northern Ireland to see how they’re spending it. Because for the past few years they’ve been coming up to Newry And spending their hard earned, which has been great for our economy.

Making it in the RoI, spending it in N.I - If carlsberg did ironic twists of fate..........

Jealous of what exactly?

Now, my historical knowledge of the Ireland fiasco might not be exactly brilliant, but correct me if I'm wrong, but there was a referendum where the people of NI voted, and said they wanted to remain as NI and united with the UK.

So..... with that in mind, how on earth can people who support a united Ireland, just blatantly ignore the wishes of the very people who inhabit the country they want back?

How can you possibly make any progress when the very people of NI wish to remain as NI and separate from the ROI.

Sigh... my head will explode, I know there are so many intricacies like the Israel/Palestine situation, but this one seems a lot more clear cut when its already been voted on in the past!!

Ireland in 'being jealous of England' shocker.

I genuinely don't really get where you'd get that from. Theres lots of stupid bigoted, and some valid, reasons for the anti uk feeling over the years, most of which a non issue to most young people, but Jealously I'd never had put down as a reason. So I'm curious where you'd get that idea from.

This is true to a point. I think it mainy stems from the smaller nations suffering a deep set inferiority complex.

That makes no sense.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I never got the impression that Irish people think of the UK as a "big country". Its a weird mix of the traditional enemy, and the neighbour against everyone else.

No, not ROI, I was referring to the Scots, Welsh, and NI with their respective "views" on the English.

They are supported of the backs of tax payers, and fundementally stand for something that negates equality.

The Royal family is a blight on progress.

The Royal Estate makes more money for the government than it costs to fund the Royal Family. This also does not count the income collected via the tourism they generate.

How exactly is that therefore "supported on the backs of taxpayers"?

Or did you just not bother doing your research? ;)

I'll be honest, I used to think that we should get rid of them too, as I assumed they simply cost money to keep, and never bothered looking into it. Once I discovered they make more money for the country (by several multiples) than it costs to keep them, I changed my mind, I'll support them for that alone.

Other than that I don't care one way or the other.
