Game PS3 Extended warranty. Beyond economical repair so here's half the value in cash...what?

From GAME's T&C's.

Discontinued products

If your product has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is deemed to be beyond economic repair, as a result of a covered claim, we will replace your insured product with an equivalent pre owned model. If an equivalent pre owned model is not available then, at our discretion, we will offer you a voucher or cash settlement based on the following:

Up to 6 months from the date of purchase:
90% of the original purchase price you paid.
6-12 months from the date of purchase:
80% of the original purchase price you paid.
12-18 months from the date of purchase:
70% of the original purchase price you paid.
18-24 months from the date of purchase:
60% of the original purchase price you paid.

Seeing as the old fat PS3 is discontinued not too sure how much further your going to get. You can try and force the issue, but the insurance company will probably not budge as it is in their terms and conditions.

Personally take the money offered and keep an eye out for a bargain.

As I put in my post they have changed the terms a lot of people didn't agree to what they have now changed them to so I don't see how they can do this.

the ps3 one may be different he might of agreed to those terms you posted up but half the time the store doesn't tell you this so they are miss selling the product.

dude as a lot of people have already said £40 and he gets a brand new slim which is 10 times better than a second hand phat model, if your mate wants, ill give him my phat model and ill take the vouchers.

my mate was given a 360 which had two repairs done by them to it and has now failed again they are refusing to do anything saying the policy ended with the swap.

The ps3 person is very lucky what they got offered.

Well you made the mistake of getting a high street store insurance policy - normally with these the T&Cs are a minefield and they have all sorts of small print allowing them to wriggle about and get away with giving you as little as possible for your faulty goods.

When I had my 60GB PS3 I went with the official warranty through Sony as you were guaranteed a (reconditioned, admittedly) replacement like-for-like. But that's gone now, so i'm not sure what to suggest.

I'd probably argue that i'd be losing my PS2 backwards compatibility and demand some kind of payment for that, but I expect they'd just start reciting rules and regulations to you.

As said above, i'd have not given them the time of day in the first place though.

oh right your not the OP, well all i can say is its mainly microsofts fault.

if you bought a computer part which had a fault in it aka intel and their sandybridge chipsets, it would be replaced with a new model ala the b3 revision free of charge.

microsoft didnt do this, all they did was keep repairing borked consoles and hoping it wouldnt happen again, but you still ended up with a borked console, i myself have had 3 of them die on me, thats why i switched to ps3, my bro uses my 360 now. my cousins have had theirs die on them at least 2 times and a mate has had his die multiple times, in fact i dont know many people in real life who havent had theirs die on them multiple times.

i now know i will never ever buy a xbox again, the way microsoft handled it all was terrible. they were replacing your console with another one which had been bodged to work again, the fact i have had 3 fail on me is proof of this, its like buying a laptop with an exploding battery, and after it explodes they just give you another exploding battery to put back inside it.

I was on the part of starting a fight when i bought my Xbox 360 in game.

I bought it christmas before last when they had a christmas special. Price was good as any of the online deals at the time, so i sauntered in and asked to buy. And then he unleashed the upselling.

Telling me that i had to absa-pos-a-lutely had to have the game warranty otherwise i wouldn't be protected. I didn't matter that i was being a newer model - they still had the same faults casuing RROD as the original model, it didn't matter that microsoft had acknowledged the problem and had extended warranties to cover the specific RROD faults that he and everybody else were talking about - they wouldn't cover everthing so i needed the game warranty.

It didn't matter that i didn't like 3rd party warranties because they make a profit out of you because they are middlemen - this warranty isn't like that sir, its for your protection etc..

After literally about 10 minutes or raised voices arguing i told him to take me to the till and let me pay or i'd be walking out. Its no wonder they are so pushy when they can make money on weaseling out of claims like this.

Well seeing as their site is selling a pre-owned fat model with black ops for £159, I'd say £189 is more than fair. You can have a direct replacement, with a free game (an expensive one at that) and have £30 left over.

If it was me, I'd put some money towards it and buy a new slim

edit: just noticed they have one for £149 with Red Dead. These are 60gb models too

The large print giveth, the small print taketh away.

:)

Small print seems fairly clear cut. Sounds harsh but if I signed up to a 3rd party extended warranty this is the first thing I would have checked. Unless they offered a new for old/discontinued replacement system, I would not even bother.

60% of the £289 you paid is ~£173. You could argue they are being generous in this case.

Out of interest how much did the 2 yr policy cost?

So my brother's PS3 went wrong about 19 months after he purchased a pre-owned bundle from game. He originally purchased 1 x PS3 Phat, 1 x Dual Shock controller, 2 x new ish games all for £289 with Game extended 2year warranty. He phoned up the Game aftercare insurance "Allianz" and they told him the procedure to send it all in including controller (not incl games) and then upon receipt told him that it was beyond economical repair so they would be sending Game vouchers so he could buy another.
Immediately alarm bells started ringing and I wondered why they simply wouldn't replace it as they state they would. Apparently, because it's an older Phat model, they can use the "discontinued product" card and basically to cut a long story short they are providing him with £189 which is about 60% of the original purchase price.
I think he has a right to feel a bit hard done by? You pay extra for a warranty "safe" in the knowledge you are covered for 2 years, then he loses out and has to stump up the extra to afford to buy a replacement slim model. Even preowned bundles start at £229 at game.

What do you think?

A pre owned 120GB slim is 189.99, is 99p really that much of a problem? :/

Why would you be expecting a bundle? you arn't having to replace games
