this weather plus evening/night shifts

I have 2 shifts and only 1 enjoy doing. One week it is 6am-2pm, giving me the rest of the day to do some stuff, week after is 1pm-9pm, which wastes the day as far as I'm concerned.

I'm working 6pm-2am at the moment, it's not too bad apart from sleeping during the current daytime heat.

I miss 6am-2pm one of the best shifts I ever had :D

So you're coming straight home from work and going to bed?

Most people I know need 'unwind' time before they can sleep.

I used to work 3 shift pattern and when I came off 2200:0600 i used to get home walk dogs for 15 mins neck a beer and go straight to bed, the beer always got me up at 1130 for a pee and then I got up and had whole day to myself.

Night shift rocks.

Never have I witnessed you fail so hard Zefan.

Night shift screws with your sleeping, eating and excersise pattern so much that it sends you literally insane. Especially if you're working alone which makes it all the more unsociable.

I recently packed it in after 14 months (11pm-7am).

Best desicion I ever made.

I did nights (9pm-5am 5 days a week) for nearly 5 years up until a month ago and changed jobs, now doing 1pm-9pm.

Never had any problems sleeping in hot or cold weather, always went straight to bed at 530am and woke naturally without an alarm around 12-1pm. Then about all afternoon/evening to game/diy, pick daughter up from school etc etc.

It's good to be working in daylight again and getting some much needed sun as I was looking a bit pale! But in all nights worked for me, felt like a day off everyday.

Im doing 5-midnight and then start full night shifts next week. Trying to sleep during the day when it's hot is horrible. You open the windows to cool down, but then you get all the noise. Working nights in winter is much easier in my opinion.

dunno about that tbh.. - I used to do a similar thing in my previous role and just go straight to bed - normally go to bed at 2am anyway so sleep pattern didn't change much when doing a late shift (aside from having a bit longer in bed in the morning).

tis indeed awesome to have the day free in summer - unfortunately I don't do shift work any more though do have the option to work from home on occasion

not necessarily, at least not for eveyone. some folks have a displaced circadian rhythm where by they usually, through no choice of their own, can't get into a normal sleep pattern in the same way most people do.

results in them staying up till the wee hours of the morning and then sleeping through most of the day. these people are perfectly suited to night shift work. if they find themselves in a situation whereby they have to conform to the normal sleeping/waking/working hours, they are highly to prone to eating disorders, fatigue and actual mental health issues such as depression

The problem with nights and this type of weather is that I'll be missing most of it sleeping. I finish at 7am get home and in bed by 8am then try and sleep till at least 3pm.

Ok if I was working 9-5 I wouldn’t be able to appreciate the weather until I finish work but at least I could unwind and enjoy the late afternoon/evening, as it stands I get a couple of hours then I have to get ready for work.

I genuinely don’t mind working nights and it helps that I don’t do them every week, but night shifts and this weather for me aren’t the best combination.

A night shift where you go to sleep doesn't do affect any of those things.

Never have I seen you fail so hard Seek :p
