My current system hasn't had its cheerios and is spitting out crashes every hour or so, which has already led to around 20 hours of work being lost; so I'm looking for a new build.

I currently have the speakers, mouse and keyboard aswell as a monitor.

What the system is used for: Crysis 2, TF2, BF3 and a bit of photoshop (but nothing heavy).

Budget: Around the £750 mark

Preferences: As quiet as possible (although not a big deal) and the video needs to be able to support dual 1920x1200 (but only one will be used for gaming). I will also be overclocking the processor to around 4GHZ, maybe slightly more.

The problem is that the only thing I'm certain of at the moment is the processor. Which I have chosen to be the Intel i5-2500k

I've been looking around at graphics cards, ram, cases and psus but the choice between different brands and models is too much.

Saying that, I've seen this card which looks pretty good

Would this build be fine with the 2x4GB ripjaws? I currently have 4GB memory in my system and was looking to upgrade everything. I will be doing a multimedia course next year at uni and though I might as well go to 8GB of ram maybe?

8Gb is fine if you have a 64bit operating system. 32bit won't recognise any more than around 3.25GB.

Some coolers can block memory slots especially if using RAM with fancy heat spreaders.

Perhaps go with some RAM with lower profile heat spreaders.

Yeah, already have a spare copy of Windows 7 64 so that should be fine.

I was also considering bumping the overclock past 4ghz, I noticed on the motherboard it said upto 4, is this up to 4ghz using their overclocking wizard? or would I be able to push it higher?

I have the MSI P67A-GD65 and overclocked a 2600K to 4.5GHz after about 5 minutes in the BIOS.

I'm sure it will go further but 4.5GHz worked first time and I don't feel the need to go any further.

MSI seem to have it spot on with their P67 boards.

Whichever board you buy make sure it's a B3 revision as some of the "faulty" B2's are still being sold.

Ok, thanks.

Searched on google for a bit and nobody has reported problems using ripjaws with the A50, but a lot of people confirming it works so that's all good I hope.

Also, you might be able to confirm. On the overclockers website it says the MSI board supports
- 4x DIMMs with support for DDR3 1133/1066 up to 16GB MAX
however on another it says DDR3 1333/1600/2133
A bit confused here.

From the MSI website "DDR3 1066/1333/1600*/2133*(OC)" and up to 32GB.

Win 7 Home Premium 64bit (if that's what you have) only recognises 16GB anyway.

I'm running 8GB (2x4GB) of 1600MHz RAM no problem.

The price of anything faster than 1600MHz seems disproportionate to any marginal benefits.

The motherboard will come with SATA cables, USB 3.0 backplate etc.

Your case will come with all the necessary screws to put everything together.

Power supply will have all the necessary cables to power everything up.

The Corsair A50, if you get that cooler, comes with thermal paste.
