White specs all over car

Hi all. I got a car a few months back and noticed that it has white specs all over the boot and roof of the car. I tried using some polish which seemed to dim the marks but does anyone know how I can remove them?

get some photos.

We can't tell from purely text if this is something ON the paint, or if its where the paint has been removed revealing the undercoat.

So the whiteness is actually underneath the paint?

Primer is usually a whitish grey colour so it may be that.

How old is the car?

you have your base layer of primer, then your layer of colour (red in this case) then a few layers of clear lacquer which seals it all in and `protects` the paintwork.

on mainly bright red cars the colour fades and the lacquer peels due to the sun.

is it smooth to the touch, or when you rub your finger over it can you feel something on top of the paintwork ?

As already said it looks like the lacquer is failing.

The only way you are going to fix that is with a respray. In fact I have to wonder if it's not already had one, and someone's not done a very good job of it.

no chance am I getting a respray, that would cost more than the car. thanks guys.
