Yes, im one of those people aswell. Was just checking the 480SOC thread, and seem people have been having a lot of problems with "artefacts" (not sure what they are, but they sound nasty)
Maybe the 5850's would be safer oO (not to mention more fps)
hmm confused![]()

Its not all about the PSU. I have a Silverstone 1kw and i still get artefacts. Silverstone use seasonic parts and they are reliable.
When i put my SOC back to stock 480 cloacks my problems dissapear.when i up the voltage at SOC speeds my problems also go away.
have you got yours back from gigabyte yet chap
GB will be getting it on Monday![]()
therutz problem is could all be different problems with each of us - who knows
so in Cleecoos case perhaps his isn't stable at stock SOC speeds but PSU is ok
and in my case pehaps is stable at stock SOC speeds but my PSU is not ok
so many variables hard to know whats going on
True that
All im saying to the chap who wanted the advise is to go for the best PSU he can if he get a 480SOC as it would be a shame if he gets it and has a PSU problem specially IF he is going to want to SLI in the future
I dont think a 750 is good enough for SLI
5850cf vs gtx480
750w isn't good enough for 480 SLI, but certainly enough for two 5850s.
Total system power consumption with dual 5870s = just under 600w, so two 5850s will probably be pulling around 500-550w. Multi gpu setups are never going to be quite as stable as a single card setup, but it's certainly not as bad as TheRutz is suggesting. I've built quite a few systems with sli-crossfire in them (as most of the time it offers better performance for the cash), and have never had the recipients of those machines complain of any problems.
Single cards are more stable though
Driver wise they are a bit more stable, there is no denying that, but dual cards aren't the nightmare that they have been made out to be in this thread. Both SLI and crossfire are mature platforms, and will work fine when slotted in your machine.
Unless you have two 480s with a generic 350w!
Havent tried dual card but if the oppurtunity comes to pick up another 480 for cheap later, then I will.
