Well its getting to that time of year again, from lunch time until sun set the sun bakes my room, its not to bad right now but last night it was 23C when I went to bed so i'd like to get a decent fan as my old one is pretty nasty and pretty soon it will get very hot in here

Anyone know if tower fans are any good? I have limited space and traditional pedestal fans have large feet, would be nice if it was silver and black, quiet'ish if thats possible and I could pick it up today, seen a couple on a well know DIY website (not sure if I can discuss this type of thing?) but i'm not sure if tower fans are as effect as tradditional fans?

I dont really want to spend much more than £40

I was going to go out and get one regardless, you would think that a quick post in the general discussion forum as thats what its here for might be noticed by someone who has bought one recently and can recomend it before I go out so I dont have the hassle of buying one, realising its pants and having to take it back!

I have a tower fan. They don't give such a wide spread of cool air as they are obviously a lot narrower than a traditional fan but putting it on osculate sorts this. You will also need to put a tower fan on a desk or something if you want cool air on your face/body. When they are on the floor they only blow air up to about knee cap height but this obviously depends on your distance from the fan.

You've just described GD perfectly. Socially awkward relationship-avoiders with zero communication skills who, apparently, cannot do anything of any note for themselves. The only need for sub-forums would be to break down their dysfunctions into easy to manage, clearly labelled, HERP DERP RAINMAN bitesize chunks of uselessness.

Also, my window is open and I want it to be closed. How should I do this?

Get one of these it's like a mini AC unit, can put ice or cold water in it. Awesome.

Bit out of your price range at £65 but worth the extra few quid.

From the place that sounds like the element Argon. It's called "Challenge Air Cooler"

Get a ceiling fan.
The cheap ones have 3 speeds and are reversable.
You can have the light on, the fan on, or both together.
The biggest plus is that it's always out of the way.

If it's so bad why are you still here.

Probably because you are exactly what you just described.

I have a ceiling fan with lights & remote in my pc dive.(Luxury)

If a ceiling fan is out, then a height adjustable Oscillating Pedestal Fan, Argos have them for £25:00p.

Aren't AC units notoriously power hungry? Or is it only when you get into the realm of huge industrial type ones for business/offices that the cost sky rockets?

Are ceiling fans really any good? Been in a villa with one on the ceiling and can't see I've found it great.. Noisy (might be old and stuff)

Saw a fan at Costco earlier £38 I think, 18"? Put out loads of air!

Then I saw another, which didn't have blades, it cost like £150 :s No idea how it worked.. can't remember what it was called either. It didn't seem to put out much air though

Try windiow blinds instead to limit the amount of lght and heat from the sun. I have a blackout blind on my window which I keep about halfway when the sun is out.

Dyson Airblade. The fanless fan that has a fan inside.

oops!
Airblades are the hand dryers.
The bladeless fanless Dyson thingies are called Air Multipliers. (They still have fans inside them though)

That was it! Apart from it being quiet... I don't see the point, it wasn't putting out much air so.. For the cost ouch
