Lost my GTAIV box during a move a while ago so decided to pick it up for a fiver from D2D, which includes the Episodes as well but I have them so I'll be forwarding that to a mate.

Problem is that GTAIV is a 13 point something gigabyte download and I've tried twice to get it down in one piece, both times at work over night on two different machines. Exact problem on both, WinRAR and WinZip say the archive is damaged and can't be unzipped.

One PC is XP Pro using IE8 and one is Windows 7 Pro using Chrome

Anyone else had this? I will not be buying from D2D again tbh, Steam all the way

if you see my thread about direct2drive i had no end of problems with GTA 4, but it did download fine. maybe servers are just really busy?

winrar extracted mine ok so wouldnt think its that.

OP has a different issue to me it seems, but I can tell you what I had happen.

Downloaded file... open with WinRAR: "corrupt".
Downloaded again... open with WinRAR: "corrupt".
Figure that the problem might be WinRAR itself...
Open with 7zip... extract... no problems.

I've stopped using WinRAR altogether now. The annoying pop-ups to register, coupled with the fact that 7zip is freeware, and then the D2D issue gave me a good reason to switch for good.

D2D does state IE will have problems downloading larger than 4gb files and states just firefox and some other browsers to use as they have a download manager or somit.

Just wondering if u tried firefox? And read the thing it shows when trying to dl the game.

well i only have winrar installed and it opened fine on mine, so i dont think thats correct.

how are you downloading it? with their software or browsers downloader?

You don't think what's correct?

It only happened last year, and my memory isn't that bad yet! Nor did I just make it up... WinRAR failed to open and extract the very same file that 7zip opened and extracted just fine.

Now I'm off to take the pills Dr Whats-his-name prescribed me, if only I can remember where I put them...

and i unrared them yesturday afternoon, so yeh. im not saying you didnt have a problem, im just saying that its not a universal problem as i for one didnt have an issue with winrar.

One dl was IE one was Chrome. Files check out size wise but just don't open. Guess I'll try Firefox dl manager tomorrow. Odd really because I remoted in to the Windows XP machine and extracted the episodes fine with 7zip

try using direct2drives software to download it, then just uninstall it once you have backed up the files.

Use the comrade application - it is D2D's version of the steam app and is very professional.

I originally had the same issue. download comrade game manager from the D2D website.

My GTA4 purchase from D2D didn't include the 2 extra episodes/DLCs when I grabbed it, so it's just the base one, but it is also around the 14.5GB mark in size and has the filename gtaiv_dd_eu.zip. I haven't had the problem you speak of before with their downloads, but I haven't used it for that many purchases to fairly say either way.

If yours is the same filename and approx. size, might be worth checking that you have the same (md5 hash) checksum which would help confirm if the file is corrupt, you could also use that information in any discussion with D2D support.

Microsoft's MD5 checksum generator if you don't have another:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290

And the details of my own file:

Code:
Z:\Backup\Topdog\Downloads>C:\Users\Topdog\Downloads\fciv\fciv.exe gtaiv_dd_eu.zip
//
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
//
b33e21cc52c08e0be4d5ab0d324489b0 gtaiv_dd_eu.zip

Z:\Backup\Topdog\Downloads>dir gta*
Volume in drive Z is GoFlex Home Public
 Volume Serial Number is 09C0-27A5

 Directory of Z:\Backup\Topdog\Downloads

27/04/2010 10:11 14,851,448,554 gtaiv_dd_eu.zip
               1 File(s) 14,851,448,554 bytes
               0 Dir(s) 1,694,654,148,608 bytes free

Z:\Backup\Topdog\Downloads>

Good lucking getting it sorted.

Can I use comrade to download the file and save to an external disk? I need to dl it at work because it would take days to download at home? :(

yes it downloads all the install files to a folder. so just make sure you select an easy to find folder and make sure the 'delete after install' option is not on.
