Hi guys,
Basically my dad is getting his van sprayed and some vinyls on promoting his business. Thing is his current @hotmail email address doesn't sound great and i have seen people with eg [email protected] etc
How can i set up an email that will have: name@business name.co.uk?

Do Gmail or Hotmail etc have this feature?
Thanks

This article gives a good description of the service google provides.

I suggest have a look and get your Dad his own domain and host with Google. You pay a little for it, but as you said, the it's 100 times more professional looking.

Most website hosts will offer a domain free or something similar (they are only like £1 anyway), have a nose around.

Unless you want to host files or have a website you don't need hosting. Like Knubje said I would use Google Apps - this means Google takes control of sorting out your email and you get to use Outlook, the awesome Gmail style webmail interface and a load of other things too, for free.

I'd register the domain with 123-reg, lots of people probably moan about them but they're always been good for me. When you register your domain you don't need any of of the extras they try and sell you, even the email extra - Google will take control of that part. You don't need to pay any more than £2.99/year for everything you need (assuming you're registering a .co.uk).

Yep, exactly.

Register domain (£2.99). Set-up Google apps (for email, calendar, documents etc). Done :).

With Google you add lots of different accounts too (i.e. me@, you@, them@) and unless you need a silly amount it'll stay free.

Just register the domain, no frills, no extra services. You can then get google to take over email for the domain.

There are quite a few guides in gmail, if you login with an account that you might already have. As Ph0 said, £2.99 a year is all you need to be looking at for registering a .co.uk domain for a year.

Ok cool.
I only need the one so :)
Register a domain at 123-reg, and use it with Google Apps.
Thanks mate.

How do i go about getting it setup so emails go straight to iPhone. There anything special i need to do?

I might be wrong on this but if email is going through Gmail, you could maybe setup on the iPhone to use Exchange ActiveSync. Meaning you'll benefit from push contacts, mail, calendars - So he'll get new emails to his phone as they are sent rather than polling the network at a set time. Perfect for business. :)

It's pretty simple really.
First register a domain name ie: joeblogs.co.uk etc. You can then have [email protected] as your email address. As mentioned earlier, use a company like 123-reg to register your domain (which can take up to around 48 hours to propagate after reistration) and then if you don't have web hosting, simply register with say google mail and then from your account with 123-reg, re-direct your email from joeblogs.co.uk to [email protected].

If you decide to build a website, you can get free hosting without adverts at such as "Freehostia" which is excellent and virtually as good as paid hosting. You can also have a dedicated email addy without the need for google mail but gmail is very reliable and only shows if you reply or send emails.

Your Google Apps account is your Google account, you don't need to make another.

https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new should be the link you need to set it up.

And here's how you configure your domain on 123-reg to make it work with Google.
