I've purchased a XFX 6950 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-192-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752) and would like to know what would be the best method to turn it into a 6970?

I know there's a huge thread however most of the information is outdated and unreliable. I also have a few questions.

Can I use any 6970 bios to do the upgrade with?

Would it make a difference using the most up-to-date 6970 from a manufacturer or does it not make a difference?

If I installed the 6950, would I then need to re-download any drivers?

Thanks,
Oliver

This is not the case at all Oliver
Im almost positive all your questions will be answered within easyriders thread.
You just need to take 10 mins of time to find the answers

It is recommended to only unlock the SP and to increase the gpu core clock to the same as 6970, without increasing the memory clock to the same as 6970, because the power supply of the vram is not so solid as 6970.

The link above unlocks the shaders and changes the memory frequency from 1250Mhz to 1375 Mhz, there is a school of thought that say it's safer just to do the shaders and then just change the memory manually.

All I did is downloaded MSI Afterburner and set my memory back to 1250Mhz, that said it seemed to be fine in 3DMark @ 1375.

Why not post in the actual thread? And why is the info outdated and unreliable?

Probably because Easyrider went to a lot of time/effort to post the original thread.

That said threads like that can become daunting with so much information in them, I think the OP just wanted pointing in the right direction without having to read through a 40 page thread.

So he feels he deserves the extra posts? I don't understand what you're trying to say! :(

Not being accusatory here (or trolling), just wondered! :D

EDIT: To be fair it's easier just hitting quote a few times to reply to more than one post :)

I just think Easyrider just wants to keep all the pertinent information in one thread.

Threads like this:-

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18221844

do tend to become a victim of their own success, with so much information in them that they become a bit scary and not very easy to dip into quickly. I do think it could do with an update and maybe have a "date" on post [1] saying when the information was last updated.

Would be good to have an easy to follow guide of how just just flash the shaders and not the memory.

I was posting on the fly....Not beliveing someone would have the audacity to come in here and spout mistruths about my threads!

All that was needed was to post in the that sticky and all his questions would have been answered.

Eh? What is your obbession with my post's...Its not something I do on a regular basis...I just contribute in a normal way...

I was gobsmacked someone would post such nonense in here without even posting in the original thread!

The origional thread would have held all the answers to his questions, and any clarification or queries from OP should have been posted in there, it is lazy really, I have done this myself from time to time as it is far easier,
4 posts within 3 mins is a bit OTT though "IMO"
