PS3 decided to give up and I cannot be bothered attempting a fix myself, can anyone recommend a cheap and quick repair company?

Cheers:)

Do it yourself ,its very easy to do .
Take off the warranty sticker using a hairdryer so you can re-apply it after you fix it . Then take along to your local game / gamestation and trade it in for a new one .

I did. :-)

So the DIY fix isn't permanent or were you just playing it safe?

Might attempt a DIY fix but at the minute time to do it is limited and a £50-£60 fix would be more convenient :)

The YLOD fix isnt permanent full stop - i fixed mine as per ?Gilskys guide on youtube and tbh it lasted only a few minutes. Then did the hairdryer trick and it worked long enough for me to get all my save games etc off and take it to gamestation and a play test there to trade it in.

If you cant be bothered to take it apart then at least try the hairdryer trick. Worth a shot even to get a disk out the drive.
