Hi,

I was just wondering if any focus owners could tell me how many rpm it is at 80 mph. If you also know the rpm at 60 and 70mph that would be great also!

Thanks.

What gear? ;)

I can do 6500rpm in 3nd at 80mph. :p

I'd have thought the 1.6 Focus would be higher up the rev range than my car, so I'd say more like 3.5-5k for 60-80...it tops out at 115 and has 98bhp, so somewhere around there I'd guess.

3nd, eh?

3,500 rpm at 60 mph? My Fiesta 1.25 is only doing 3,200 rpm at 70!

Im sure there was a thread on FFOC asking the same thing ages ago. Everyone decided to tell what RPM theirs was even though most of the forum had similar engines with little mods to really make a difference lol. I'm sure i posted in it!

In my 1.6 MK1 the rpm while in 5th is at exactly 3K when doing 70mph. I'm guessing if your doing 80mph then it will probably sit just under 3.7K rpm.

Like I said, about 3300 at 80 iirc, fairly long geared. This means the engine noise isn't too bad, but it's about as lively as a tortoise.

No need to guess, there is a fixed relationship between RPM and wheel speed with a manual gearbox. 80/70 * 3000 = 3380RPM.

I find a lot of what people are saying quite hard to believe. Unless it's an overdrive, the people doing 3k at 70 will be hitting peak power at around 140mph, which for a 1.6 fails a sanity check.

I'm going to find the published gear ratios and work this out when I'm not on the iPhone.

I don't want to make a new topic so I'll just post this in here..

Is it possible to do 100mph in 2nd gear and still accelerate further whilst in 2nd? Car is a mk5 1.6 Astra Sri.

My mate is adamant it's possible, but I think he's just trying to break my car.

Sounds right to me, i'm roughly 3500rpm for 70mph.. 7200rpm will take me to 138mph. Interestingly, torque peaks at 4250rpm but pulls through the band till 6500rpm. This is on a peakish 1764cc F7P.

It revs slightly faster to make the power. Nothing at idle practically.

As for the Astra, it won't have the power to pull all the way up the rev range in 5th.

Not without a hill I would guess.
