Hi folks, I was switched over to Sky LLU this morning (no outage to speak of either, very surprised). Sky have estimated my connection speed to be 19mb but as DLM hasn't kicked in yet I'm stuck on 4mb, any idea when the the line testing starts?

dunno how it works, but its ten days, it does something to your line through the night and tests how much it can handle afaik.

Someone with a bit more knowledge will be along soon and tell you the ins and outs

you wont be capped at 4mb for the full 10 days.

you will see the speed increase quite drastically after a day or two, then you will see smaller increases in the speed over the remaining days as the DLM system tries to 'optimize' your line speed.

note: the DLM will adjust you speeds from around 2am when it scans you router to get performance stats...dont turn your router off at any point, but im sure you already knew that

Perfick, thanks.

Looks like it started this morning so fingers crossed

depending on your line stats when the DLM finishes it may be worth ringing sky to get them to squeeze a bit more speed for you.

when my DLM finished my stats showed

I then rang sky and suggested i should be getting more speed and 15mins later i had these stats

I also got them to put me on the gamer profile for better ping which has helped some.

Heard a lot of horror stories about Sky and the service they provide so will be watching to see your experience with them. My exchange hardly has any LLU in it though Sky and TalkTalk are in there so I am sat on just 8Mb so have been debating on moving over to Sky Broadband.

I was in a similar situation Stoner, and moved about 6 months ago, service has been spot on, without a single glitch. I get a consistent 16-17mb. No horror story here

The only real horror stories you will hear will be about their Connect package. Their LLU is mostly spot on.

It has been perfect for me for 2 years now :)

Been on Sky LLU for about 3 years now, maybe more and i can honestly say it's been perfect. it's been down maybe half a dozen times in that time, a couple of times for about an hour, once all evening but that was an exchange issue. it's been rock solid and my speeds have always been consisitent at 19.5-20mbps. For the price I'm not sure about can beat it if you're close to your exchange.

you'll be capped to 4mb for 10days whilst it tests then it'll be normal
Its not 10 days.
I've been with Sky for about 20 days now and after 3 days of 4Mb, it started training. Went from 4/0.5 to 16/0.5 to 16/1 to 19/1 to 19.98/1 to 19.98/1.15 and its stabilised there. It did the speed increases in the early hours of the morning.

Explain!? lol.
Because i get sub 40ms in WoW but 75-150 in BC2. :(

About my only complaint with Sky LLU is that if i use any HTTP download, im lucky to get about 8-12meg out the line, but a download of an Ubuntu live CD or off MS gives me a full 17-19 meg out of it. Im convinced theres something dodgy going on, because as a result, my PS3 takes AGEs to download anything compared to the time it should take. :(
That and speedtest.net gives me awful results compared to what it should be. :p

Manually set your PS3 DNS servers to public ones (Google etc) and your problem will go away. This is a known problem.

Your download speed is probably being capped by the actual servers. Have you tried a HTTP download from a site with known good bandwidth? ATI.com?

They already are, makes no difference.

A few yes. Not a lot of difference tbh.

in the process of making the move because I was stuck on 8mb. BT are being arsy about our MAC code though...

From what I gather, if you need a Mac code you're going on the Sky Connect package (which is rubbish), to get on Sky LLU they need to take your line away from BT and you don't need a Mac code for this, it's all done automatically.

DLM probably hasn't finished yet but I'm doing alright
