Im sitting here my eyes streaming snot pouring out my nose, You get the idea, So im drinking some over the counter cold remedie that i know wont help one bit and i cannot help thinking how billions are spent on medications that do not work. Thats why there is no cure for the common cold, The big drug companies would loose billions. They have the cure but you aint never going to get it !

Eyes & snot? Sounds like hayfever. Probably why cold remedies aren't doing anything.

And no, there are no 'cures' for the common cold, only things to subdue the symptoms.

That is correct, there is no cure.

The "common cold" is, in fact, not "common". There are 127 known variants, and it is a mutating virus. Thus you can catch it multiple times.

make a product that helps with the symptoms of a cold that needs to be taken over and over and over again, or come up with a cure that needs to be taken less often......

If i was a business I know which I would be doing!

it's a virus.

there is a prevention though. The cold virus requires the right conditions in your nose, if you keep your nose warm you can't get a cold for one. Also, if you feel a cold coming then that "first defense" stuff actually does work. A couple of squirts of that creates inhospitable conditions for the cold.

you ever read the active ingredients in something like lemsip? lol
paracetamol (500mg), phenylephrine (6.1mg) and caffeine (25mg).

lemsip arent exactly cheap either you may aswell buy a pack of lockets , some paracetamol and a can of redbull it probably works out cheaper and does the same thing

There will never be a cure for the common cold. Pharmacies would lose millions/bilions if they produced one. As they sell so many products to subdue them.

Look up antigenic variation

I don't understand the OP??

Why are you getting medicine for common cold? It goes away after a few days. There's no need to get medicine for it. There's no cure for a lot of ailments and drugs are actually just there to alleviate symptoms until the body naturally heals itself. Also, why would you buy cough medicine that you "know won't help one bit" ??

Even tho there is no cure I recommend you go vitamin C crazy it helps fight it and its the one vitamin you cannot overdose on. Keep yer fluids up also.

If there is a cure we'll never see it as the pharmaceutical companies don't want to lose all the profits they rake in from thier bull**** preventatives that are out there.

I love the pure ridiculous nature of this anti business idea people come up with.

There are DOZENS of companies producing cold remedies, which are really just, pain pills with a couple other things thrown in.

Think about that, dozens of companies, if ONE company made the breakthrough on the cure for a cold. Firstly, they could charge through the roof for it.

How many packs of cold remedy do people buy before they get bored and realise it makes no difference, 5, 10 in their life times, at a few quid a pack. So why not charge you £200 for the all time cure........ people would pay it.

So whats more profitable, everyone trying several different products before not bothering anymore totaling £50, maybe £100 over a life time, but likely that money spread over many different companies products, or everyone buying a single product for £200 all from the same company?

People love to think in an anti-establishment, big company = bad way, without the slightest hint of logical thought.

A cure for the cold would potentially be the single most profitable discovering a pharmaceutical company would ever come up with, they could charge what they want, with no competition for at least 10 years(I believe patents are generally a minimum of 10 years on these types of products).

But they'd make a bomb from the cure. They can always market other remedies for other ailments that don't work.
