Case fans wont turn off on Windows shutdown

I have powered the case fans from the PSU and from motherboard headers. They still all stay on after I shutdown the computer. I have googled and have some solutions but both I don't understand or are missing something.

Firstly, "Click “Start”, on “Computer” click right mouse button and select “Properties”, click “Device Manager”, select “IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers” group, only contains one device called “VIA 1394 OHCI Compilant Host COntroller” on that click right mouse button and select “Properties”, select “Power Management” tab, and finally check the “Allow the computer to tur off this device to save power” box!
That’s all folks. After that the computer power down normally every time."

I don't even have firewire on my board (P67A-UD4).

The second solution I searched could be what is causing this issue. I also have that dual AC97 and HD AUDIO cable as him but only one header.

In the second pic you can see he has two headers.

I also think it could be to do with the ACPI Power Management settings in BIOS. Anyone know the magic configuration? :)

Do they eventually turn off in their own time? I remember Enermax did some PSU's that would still run the fans to cool down the PC for a period of time after shutdown.

How are the fans connected to the psu? just using the 4pin molex? is the RPM wire going to the motherboard header?

i have the same motherboard. i put the HD Audio onto the Header by the CPU. Works a Treat :)

My Fans stay on for roughly 2 seconds after the pc is off though.

stulid, not sure. Just had it off for 10 mins and fans still going. Also what did you mean by rpm wire? I thought I just connected the fan to the psu with molex? I also forgot to mention that the cpu fan loses rpm on shut down and keeps going this way till I switch PSU off at the back. I think the graphics card fan increases for a brief second before everything should boot down.

Br4d, would you mind noting down your Power Management settings in the BIOS and posting here? Thanks

Oh I should have phrased that better. I meant to say I had the problem with molex connectors so I disconnected all molex and just ran from headers. Same issue.

Seasonic X-560

Could it by any chance be fixed with a BIOS update? I am on F3 atm. What are you running Br4d?

You could try a BIOS update.

I tried looking at the manual for the board, cant see anything obvious in the BIOS settings, if you have power on by KB or power on by mouse enabled? you could try turning these off.

I have made slight progress. More googling said this,

"This problem is caused by 5 Volts feeding back from an external USB device/powersupply.
The reason the 5 Volts feeds back is that manufacturers (As remember, Sharktoon is an example) cut costs by eliminating the necessary diode to prevent this problem.
The fans turn slowly because they are receiving 5 Volts instead of 12 Volts."

I looked at my PC again. I had the Intensity Pro capture card attached. I remove this and shut down pc, the cpu fan turns off on shutdown, progress I thought. To test if the motherboard was completely shutting down I attached the rear exhaust fan to the top left fan header. I shut it down again, the cpu fan shuts down but the rear exhaust fan stays on. Just after complete shutdown the phase led with only the cpu fan attached lights up for a split second. Is this is what is meant to happen when motherboard power is completely removed? Can you comment Br4d?

stulid, those are off.

ive got the B3 version, ill shut down now and check about the Phase LED lighting up :P

Give me 2 minutes mate :)

Cheers. It probably is some power save feature in Windows or BIOS causing this, desperately hoping the hardware is fine. Can you type out each setting under your Power Management section please?

My wiring for anyone that can find anything wrong? I'll try and explain that mess.

The top red colour ended cable is the rear exhaust, connected to the adapter and then molex. These molex leads connect the side fan on the ground the same way. These both get powered from that black double sided molex. The other side molex (laying on base of case) powers the front led fan and the top fan. These then just go to the Peripherals port on the PSU.

I tried. :P

Only the cpu fan seems to lose some rpm when I shut down. It will turn off completely when I remove the capture card from the pci 1x slot above the graphics card. The rest of the fans are as if the computer was in full operation.

I unplugged the hdmi cable and no change.

Worth a try.

I've seen where power seems to come back from the monitor into the PC.

Unplug the monitor cable and the fans stop spinning.

Doesn't seem to be your problem though.

Also noticed that the Power led and HDD led stay completely off after shutdown. This would indicate to me that the motherboard has no power. Why the cpu fan stays on is another question.... it must be to do with that capture card still needing power. Can't enable any function in device manager to "allow windows to turn this off".

Right this is just insanely weird. A whole log.

1. Remove capture card, cpu fan stops.
2. Keep card in, fan stays on.
3. Card removed and exhaust fan attached to bottom fan header, the exhaust fan stops and so does cpu fan. The rest of the fans connected to headers stay on.
4. Connect the 200mm side fan to bottom header, it spins up but eventually stops around the time Windows fully boots up.
5. Connect the 200mm side fan to the top fan header, it keeps spinning.
6. Put capture card back in and run the 200mm side fan in the bottom header.... it continually spins. It's VERY slow though.

........

I honestly have no clue.
