My pal is looking for a new car so I'm coming to you guys for help.

Criteria:
Sub £11k, Sub 40k miles, "Reasonable to insure", Won't cost a fortune to run, Reliable, Fast Enough, Maybe a hot-hatch, no more than 4-5 years old.

He's discounted a 350z because of running costs.
S2000 is out because of insurance - More than double of other things
MX5 is out, it's too small and just doesn't like it.

Viewed a couple of z4s, would preferably want the 2.5. But viewed this today - http://www.douglasparkbmw.co.uk/use...olnDealerID=16241&currentCh=WBABZ12090LY58483

Just after some ideas, warnings, things like that.

PS sorry for two threads, thought I was editing the title. RTMed one for it to be closed.

No point in the Z4 2.5, get the 3.0

Same insurance (IME)/fuel eco/running costs, sacrifice the age/mileage a bit to get one in budget.

Audi TT 3.2

Not my cup of tea but meets the criteria and engine sound is sweet!

S2000 is the worst car to insure out of pretty much anything for me. Makes the car not worth owning as its so out of sync with the car. :(

Indeed, I can only think of 2 cars with worse insurance quotes ... TT Supra and Skylines

Thats weird, the s2000 was on my list when looking at the Porsche. I did a few insurance quotes and they wern't that bad. Not more than I am paying now anyway.

And by that I mean less than 1k per anum for a 26 year old with 6 years no claims.

I have heard that its a bit of a postcode lottery on certain cars, like you say a shame as the s2000 is a great car.

Privilage would insure me for around 800 on one, they wanted 900 odd for the boxster s which I also though was reasonable.

Im 26 and live in thorpe bay, which is basically southend on sea. ss1 postcode. It’s a low mileage policy <10k. Edit: Think I also did a couple of hundred voluntary excess.

Looks like he wants a Z4 then, how new is newish? gonna struggle to get a nice example thats newish, with a desireable engine, for under £11k.

Fox and a few others have posted a good few Z4 threads and general BM info that will be relevent, might be worth digging some of them out.

You guys seem to be thinking along the same lines as we are.
He reckons that the 3.0 Z4 would be too expensive, even if it isn't *that* much more than the 2.5.
He doesn't like the look of the newest MR2 and the older model is too old so that is out.
TT is slightly out of budget.
Aye, not sure the figures but he said the S2000 was pretty much double that of a Z4. Glasgow post code, and in a high risk job.

He's now discovered you can get a hardtop for the Z4 and think that's him just about sold. He's a bit of an impulse buyer, so by the time I dig out the stuff and talk to him he'll probably have bought it. He's going to be financing it (through in a secure, decent paying job), so has to go through dealers.
