Why would you want a hardtop for a Z4?

It costs about a grand and means its a real faff to drop the roof when it isnt raining.

Yeah, I mentioned the cost. But I suppose it gives it more 'adaptability'. He said he'd prefer the coupé but it was out of his budget so I guess this is a compromise. Though God knows where he'd store the thing...

Looks like he's going to make an offer on the Z4 mentioned in the OP. Whilst it's not my choice of car, he's 23 and so that makes me jealous. :(

And by that I mean less than 1k per anum for a 26 year old with 6 years no claims.

You have just illsutrated my point, the last time i was quoted over £1000 for a car insurance policy it had 3 cars on it, 2 of which are V8s!

you don't need to go via a dealer to get finance. I only really have any knowledge of one company that deals with car finance and they most definitely dont make you go via a dealership, you just have to have the car inspected by one of their guys. I don't think they bother with this low a value though as they specialise in performance cars (iirc their lower bound is 20k), but if they do it im sure others will that do deal with lower values.

Otherwise, a bank loan for this kinda value will probably work out a similar value and less hassle?

RBS via Adrian Flux. Aftermarket cat back declared. Jersey location.

What happens if you get a quote off the more "mainstream" insurers, such as Admiral, Direct Line et al? Just wondering, as aren't Flux considered a specialist?

5 years NCB 24 (at time of renewal) and it's 900 for me with Elephant.

I don't see as the 2.5 litre Z4 is some massively inferior car to the 3.0. I love mine and dont regret buying it one little bit. The 2.0 litre on the other hand is a bit of a no no. Stick to the 6 cylinder engines.

Flux quoted me £550 on my first policy on it while mainstream were quoting £900. At this time I was 23 with 5 years NCB.

It's currently £600 something with unemployment declared (Puts the policy up) but the aftermarket catback did not change the premium.

I've not gone back to mainstreams for the last 2 renewals as they were never competetive. I was going to give Chris Knott a try this year (as I am 25) but they are not taking on S2000s any more, new business or renewals.

Someone has got to say it...

Lotus Elise?

40+MPG is possible; insurance through specialist (REIS, CCI, Henderson Taylor can be as cheap as £300); the best handling car; fairly DIY type maintenance; easy on tires and the largest bill you could expect would be an AA Parts and Labour if you are lucky enough to get HGF.
