My Asus Mobo from my sig has given up after 3years of heavy abuse.

I have a SandyBridge build on the go at the moment anyway but I'm considering buying this Mobo (along with some ram) to give to a friend.... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-171-GI CPU will be q9450.

I always wanted to OC with P45 and wonder if anyone has any experience with this board?

Trying not to waffle... I could never get higher than 1800fsb on my StrikerII and would like to have a play before passing the system on. Add some ddr3 at atleast 1800mhz with one of my 460's and I think it would fly.

For the sake of say £170 for the board and some RAM I think it would be a nice system.

TL;DR - Can I expect any overclocking from the above linked board, Anyone know?

Cheers for any opinions.

It should overclock although the board you linked to is at the lower end of Gigabytes line.

£170 is a lot of money to spend on a dead socket though.

I'd suggest an Asus P5Q pro or deluxe for a bit more. I had mine running over 500 (2000) MHz FSB to achieve my 4.5GHz overclock on an E8400

Shame you can't access the mm. P5Q pros tend to go for 40-45 second hand.

That would be ideal, I need a few hundred more posts to access it dont I?
Im watching a P5Q on an auction site as I cant find enough to spam about that quickly :D

I hear you, but it is still a very capable gamming machine. I was getting good frames from bfbc2 with a fair bit of candy only a month ago at 1680x1050.

I would be happy to put £170 to make a system for someone that only has a crummy laptop and doesnt have the cash to splash £500+ on a new build.

The ram would be re-usable though on every existing SB or i series set-ups so it 80 for the board although the initial outlay seems big for 775.

100 and a year is for delivery and mm both isn't it?

I'm guessing it must be the 250 posts option as I dont seem to have it. Shame as been a member for feels like years!

I will be watching a few more p5q's i think to get an idea of value.

I still think it's a good system for £150. Will still play the games he plays at good frames (css, l4d, wow).
