Anyone else feel freaked out when going into an apple store?

And every YouTube video of a apple sale has a happy clappy person jumping out the store. I'm talking general population which is by far the biggest user set. A few forums and threads does not change that, you can find many threads for that with jail broken phones, not much different to flashing and rooting.

It's not just on this forum either, every forum where there's a "post your mobile/desktop/whatever" thread is the same as our one here. Heck even SA/Joe Rogan forums where a lot of the people aren't as up there with tech as most on here are the same as well and they're more Average Joe than those of us on here.

Unless you meant what Robbo posted above, in which case your wording was quite poor :p

You can get some pretty high levels of customisation going on, there isn't a big gulf between that thread and the Mobiles Desktop thread in the Mobile forum really.

I think with your love for fiddling with things you could get iOS looking pretty damn good, easily on par with your Desire now.

Exactly! Like it was mentioend above, swings and roundabouts.

About the issues of some handsets, if there is an issue, it can be fixed almost all the time. A quick visit to XDA and depending on how competent you are you could have a new feeling phone in no time.

Aye I probably could but all the handsets I have access to are either work related or the owner will chop off a finger for every day the phone is unusable if the worst happens :p

Now if someone sent me one on the other hand just for this kind of purpose....things may be different ;) I have no problems fiddling and breaking my own phone, it can be fixed immediately. But damned if I'm spending £500 to fiddle!

Apart from one camera depth of field app and a decent weather app, I've not found anything worth bothering with. Even when I look at others peoples Iphones they have nothing but flash type games on them, nothing of any real use. The odd calendar app. I went through the Iphone app thread start to finish and 90% of it is just games, **** all useful apps.
There are lots of useful apps if you actually bother to search for them...

For example Word Lens is pretty useful, especially when you're on holiday... ;)

For me:

Articles - Best Wikipedia browser going
Dex - Mobile Pokemon browser
Convore - Chat with random people in groups on various topics
Dropbox - Sync between just about everything
iFiles - Store files on the device with export
Instapaper - Save and read articles later/offline
Pastebot -Proper iOS clipboard with WiFi sync with a Mac companion app
PS Express - Basic Photoshop
Reeder - Best RSS aggregator
Shazam - Find and tag music by holding the mic to a speaker
Textie - Use data to send messages rather than SMS
TuneIn Radio - Best radio app going
Units - I got the free one, simple and effective.

The problem with these app stores is discovery.

Yes I am saying it anyway but all the more reason to.

Why don't Apple release a cheaper iPhone then? Keep the core hardware spec as is but drop the storage size and thus drop the cost, or something else.

Rumour has it they're going to, as they run the risk of getting clobbered by the £100 Android section of the market.

Are they really going to be clobbered by it though?
The sort of person that wants a San Fran or similar is not the sort of person who wants an iphone, surely.
There has always been cheaper phones, with cameras and internet access and games, android is just being used more where things like symbian was.
