ATI 7000 series anyone?

With 28nm, well, the sooner they get ANYTHING made the better, because the sooner they work with it, the sooner they learn and the sooner they can make a "good" chip with it. Think 4770, and 3870 and a couple other parts.

If they were coming from 32nm parts, I'd expect just a die shrunk smaller midrange card on 28nm as a "test" part, but because we haven't had a proper 32nm uber fast part, the midrange 28nm part could easily surpass a high end 40nm part.

Charlie hasn't stopped mentioning, altogether not at all subtley something called CI.

I'm assuming that means a 28nm part, thats taped out, thats basically going to come out as fast as humanly possible then "real" parts to follow 4-6 months later.

The other thing to remember when hearing crap from Fud about it only being a dieshrink from the 6xxx parts, is there are two huge features on separate 6xxx parts, huge efficiency increase per shader on the 68xx's, and the new architecture on the 69xx. At some stage they can hopefully add those two things together and get a serious performance boost by feeding the shaders much better as the 68xx parts do.

When the schedual changes due to a whole process getting canned you can really never say what the knock on effect is, how powerful the first test card is, how desperate both AMD/Nvidia are to get to a new process asap due to costs, cores per wafer, and overall performance they can achieve.
 
A July time frame for a 28nm card isn't unrealistic although I doubt it will labelled 7000. AMD have probably designed a mid range 28nm chip similar to what they done with the Radeon 4770 which was 40nm card 4000 series so they can learn about the 28nm process before ramping up full scale production on it's new high end 7000 series chips.

I will probably be upgrading in the new when these cards come out - 22nm Ivy Bridge, a Radoen 7000 series card, 8Gb of ram and that will do me fine for a while.
 
When the HD4770 was launched it was very close in performance to an HD4850 and was faster than an HD4830.

It could be quite possible that AMD will release an HD6700 series card built on a 28NM process and with the VLIW4 shader arrangement.
 
Are AMD actually aware there are no games out or on the near horizon which make use of their current top of the line architecture? They just assuming people will rush out and buy the latest and greatest without having any actual use?... were in a recession right!?!?
 
Unless Skyrim needs me to upgrade, I will be waiting for the 8000 series. It isn't like there are any games out there that really push our hardware now anyway. Glad things have slowed down, at least until the next gen of consoles come out. Don't even know why they are bothering with these "new" generations of graphics cards.

I'm sure there are games just over the horizon to push this new hardware.... even if it's just because the game is badly coded!! :eek:
