part-exchanged vehicle, any continued liability for repairs?

Did they specifically ask you if the car had any known faults? If not then you've done nothing wrong. If they did ask and you answered "no" then you've still done nothing wrong as Peugeot told you the car was fine.

Tell them tough luck, if they're not happy then they should have inspected the car more thoroughly before going ahead with the deal.

I gave no assurances - I know for fact it needs a new tyre soon which I would have disclosed if asked, but I wasn't asked (besides, the tyre is legal for now and easily spotted). I regarded the rough idle as a judgement call since the car still drives and returns a respectable fuel consumption (in a good way!), and would have discussed the idle if asked but he initially had no concerns. He allowed me a test-drive of the car I ultimately bought in exchange for my keys so he could check out the 206, which he tells me he did.

Listen take some advice, car dealers have no morals, **** him he needs to learn how to spot a lemon.

Tell him you aint charging him for this valuable lesson and wave him goodbye.

I think this one has a sense of morals, but is daft. If he's not daft then he's a good actor. His morals seem to go in one direction though.

Thanks all, you've gone straight to my kneejerk reaction which is don't renegotiate an already satisfied contract.

To be honest, i wouldn't even be drawn into any conversation with him from now on.

I'll give him the condensed highlights of this thread next time he calls then tell him I won't accept further contact. I won't be badgered

Tell him to do one!

I'm a dealer, and when I take cars in and they need more work then I thought I don't ring the customer asking for money!

It's not right and it's certainly not professional!

Another semi-incredible thing is some people will fall for it!

I'd be tempted to report him perhaps he's scammed others the same way?

Heh, I saw the ninja edit (not quoted) - fair do's if you edited to not infer I sound like a potentially gullible fool! I tried to summarise the situation impartially as if for some crazy reason I am liable I want to know. I do think this salesman has led a sheltered existence and by happenstance has gotten by for 25 years thus far (he told me he has been dealing for 25 years more than a few times at this point...), perhaps not maliciously bad, but bad nonetheless.

I think I'd probably better not disclose the garage since it is independent and the salesman makes an effort to be fair/nice, even if in this case he has screwed the pooch. It's not in Bristol.

I'd tell them to do one or ignore them unless you need to go back for your own warranty repairs then at least talk to them, everyone is saying Karma but you car may lunch tomorrow and you need to take it back, did you get any warranty with them?

Just 3 months - didn't opt to extend. It has some weirdnesses like corroded seat runners, but I think it's basically solid. It's a 2007 Octavia TDI with 50K on the clock, I'm betting on it being a long lifer. I'll get the timing belt done and brake fluid and coolant checked/replaced within the next month since the car is 4.
