So here I am sipping on a cup of tea and then the door bell rings. There's a guy at the door holding a bag and then he starts making gestures with his hands and making strange noises...It took me a while to realise he was deaf. He gives me this little card with his name on, (something eastern european) explaining he is deaf and is selling drawings for £10-30. For the next five minutes he then goes through all these drawings of mostly cats and then shows me his signature at the back of each one. I didn't want to buy any so all I could do was shake my head and give him a thumbs down...took him a while to get the picture and leave.

I'm always suspicious of these guys, so I searched on google for selling drawings door to door and then I come across someone with the exact same story as me but from 2 years ago. Apparently he bought one of the drawings then later realised they were just printed...Good job I didn't buy any then!

Anyone else had any similar happenings?

Strange, we had something similar happen to us not long ago. A deaf guy was a the door with a piece of paper, claiming to need £5 towards eye treatment so he wouldn't lose the sight in his eye.

Didn't give him anything, was a strange situation.

It's a twist on a classic scam. Usually they pretend to be art students, from China or Israel or somewhere. They try to sell crap pictures that cost £1 to make in some Vietnamese factory.

I would call the police on them.

Since when is buying something for £1 and selling it for £20 a scam?

I think every single retailer in this country is going to prison then

I remember a deaf guy came to my door once trying to sell me drawings he did. He had about 30 drawings. I had a look at them all and they were really good but then I asked him how much for a particular drawing, he then spoked and told me.

I said good day to you sir and shut the door.

We had the same thing happen to us a couple of years ago now. French art student this time trying to flog us gawdy mass-produced tat that she claimed was done by her to raise money for charity.

Put a contract on your door that means that if they knock and are not part of a set list ( friends, familes, delivery company..Etc) they are entering a legally binding contract with a potential fee of £1000 at the discretion of the home owner.

i just had some Christian knock on my door and give me an invite to the celebration of Jesus's death lol, does this count as door to door?

Had a Polish girl knock on the door saying she was selling pictures of herself! Sadly other people were in the house or I'd have invited her in /sexpest

How is it fraud!

If you're claiming that you drew them then it is.

We once had a guy come to our door selling frozen meat and fish door to door. We bought some from him. Every now and then we order some more from him. Not had any for a while now that I think of it.

The JWs round our way know which houses to avoid these days. They don't bother with ours as my wife bends their ear about how their faith is a heretical distortion of Christianity. Must be a bit of a change from the usual four letter barrage they must get. I think they ignore the Catholics over the road and next door as well.
