What winds you up most when you're driving?

Historically speaking the indicator stalk was always on the opposite side from the gearstick, however American/European manufacturers decided (at various points in time each, but it really kicked off in the early 90's) that the was no point bothering to make extra RHD stalks just for the UK, Australia and a couple of other markets so those countries could just use LHD stalks and like it.

It became so widespread that even British manufacturers started to put them on the same side as the gearstick and eventually Japanese makers started to do it for their UKDM cars too.

And I for one hate it with a burning passion lol.

90s? Try 60s/70s, I've driven loads of 70s cars and all have the indicator to the left of the column.

Thought of some more;

- people who block keep clear areas, if the old tart in her mercedes hadn't blocked the keep clear entrance I was intending to turn into the coffin dodger who crashed into the back of me might have avoided me.

- when a slip road is extended for a long way, normally to account for a exit slip down the road, and your cruising along in the middle lane (which is technically the left hand lane before you haters chime in), and you can see a car cruising along in the slip road, and just before the exit they indicate to come into your lane, when really they should have indicated to join the main part of the road when they first entered the slip road.

I hate it when impatient people edge out half way across the road and block traffic. I had some idiot in a Discovery edge out half way across a 60mph road just expecting people in both directions to stop and let him go! He didn't even acknowledge that I was there until I beeped by horn. He responded by sticking two fingers up.

Got the whole thing on cam. :D

What winds me up is people who clearly don't deserve to have a license and do the most terrible driving known to man and nearly cause a accident, yet they look at you as it is your fault. Mainly old farts and women....

When i am going over a roundabout and some dips**t to the left thinks it is there right of way and then nearly cause a accident and start f'in and blinding behind window whilst speeding off.... This is something that stays with me all week ticking at me, making me want to go out driving with a gun to get rid of these idiots!

I am getting cheesed off just thinking about it!

The kind of people what say "Never been in a accident but seen thousands of them", f'in hate them!

I think there should be some kind of free compulsory test every 3-5 years to see if you are still fit to be driving on the roads. As i am seeing it more and more in last year!

I must admit i proper raged at some one woman the other day

Indicated to come off the roundabout, so i started to pull forwards. She of course had indicated a junction too early and carried on towards me.

I am always wary of idiots like this so hadn't pulled off yet, so avoided an accident, but as she drives by me she gives me the angriest look like i'm the one in the wrong.

You feel like chasing after her, smashing her window in and yelling that she indicated to pull off at a turn off she didnt take, it was her fault

This will of course get your arrested, so i leave me keyboard in the boot and just carry on with my day muttering under my breath.

People who see a merge lane, panick and STOP to merge ASAP - seriously annoys me - use a decent length of the merge lane, THEN merge when clear to do so. Traffic would flow much more smoothly - to make it worse, someone did this to me the other day placing us BOTH in a yellow box on a round about for absolutely no reason. It was almost as if he thought the merge lane was not for entering

^^ Pretty sure I was taught never to assume anything off an indicator. Think Ive been guilty once or twice of that kind of thing though more of not indicating at all, minus the glare part

I had some idiot in a Discovery

Thats why you buy the Discovery in the first place, its not like you can ram him.

I had this recently but it was on a roundabout, the guy pulled right out in front of me forcing me to brake on the roundabout itself, I beeped the horn and also got the two fingered response!

I have to do this every day to get out of my car park, though it's not a 60 limit, just a 30 within a town. However, if i didn't i wouldn't ever get to work, i can count on one hand the amount of times i've been let out in the past year.

Absolutely. Plus most people don't indicate. There is a really nasty roundabout near me with a railway bridge that goes over the top of it, so you can't see a lot of the cars until last minute. A while ago a 4x4 driver got really ****ed off with me for not going on indicators and blew his horn at me (particularly annoying as I usually take the smallest of gaps) - big mistake for him though, my rage boiled, I stopped him from overtaking on the next road where he followed me to and then I held him at 20 for ages on a single track road. I hate 4x4 drivers with a passion.

Sometimes you just don't have a choice, especially if they have been waiting for a long time. People around me are pretty good and I will generally let someone out if I can. Of course, you often get someone who is just impatient, gets to the junction and immediatly expects to be able to pull out of the junction regardless of traffic or speed (they are generally quite old).

hadn't moved wholely onto the roadabout i mean.

perhaps "I am always wary of idiots like this so deliberately didn't set off at full speed into the middle of the roundabout and instead started to slowly edge forwards" would be better :p

Yeah, I should have worded it differently. I don't have an issue with it if it's necessary and I've had to do it myself at really busy junctions otherwise I would be there all day. It's the impatient drivers who literally wait a couple of seconds at a junction before edging out expecting everyone to stop for them which annoys me the most.

People not signalling, it drives me mental tbh.

I agree with you, and what does my head in, is when drivers, brake in the middle of the road, and then turn on their indicators as there turning.

I do hate drivers who sit in the middle lane of the motorway doing 60mph, and you have to go around them and back into the inside lane. I can see why other drivers under take them.

Had something like that happen but in a built-up town last week with a flatbed van pulling out infront of me when my lane was clear ahead but the lane he was trying to get into was still flowing heavy.

Most annoying part of such a situation being I was the first to come up to him and cars where behind me so if something goes wrong with anyone behind i'm the one thats going to get it.

What annoys me the most are crazy roads with no warning of where the lanes go like a 3 lane road I know and you would think the middle lane is ahead only but its a right turn only... so you end up either doing a detour or annoying others who are regular to the road.

Oh..quite a list:

  • Drivers who don't signal
  • Drivers who cut me up
  • Drivers who ride my bumper
  • Drivers who can't stick in their lanes and go over the lines.

I'm not a slow driver, or a speeder; but I stick to the limits and follow the Highway Code and there are still a bunch of idiots on the Road whose main aim is to get my blood pressure up and they should all have their licenses revoked!

Edit: I remember one time I was in a 30 zone, doing an indicated 33mph (my Speedometer over-reads 3-6mph) and I braked because someone had pulled all the way. Idiot behind me thought he would be smart and swerved round me, almost having a head on collision with the other Driver who had pulled all the way out....

christian (cars with fish on the back)/female/jealous small engined drivers who think it's their mission in life to enforce the speed limit, to the point where they swerve all over the road to prevent you from progressing at any speed.

this is the one.
