That's about 80 miles north of me. A couple of my colleagues who live about 20 mils north had their cars pretty badly damaged by golf ball sized hail.

The closest I've been to a tornado was this F3:

That was just a few miles away from me - didn't see anything of it as we were down in the basement taking shelter.

364) 1983 5th June: Severe thunderstorms, large hail. Coastal towns of Dorset, Hampshire and Sussex. (Hampshire)

I remember this day vividly as our house got struck by lightning!
This was followed by a downpour of golfball-sized hailstones that obliterated our plastic conservatory roof.
Once the storm had passed we discovered that where the lightning had hit our chimney, one pot had crashed through our neighbour's glass conservatory and another one sent flying a good 30 feet or so through our shed door!

We even had a reporter & photographer from the local paper turn up.
I'll give you one guess as to who the article ended up being about....

Hail in England is not very frequent.

Largest hailstone to fall in the UK was in Horsham during 1958 - think it weighed 5oz...

I've seen some really good coastal storms over the years - once had a very heavy hail shower which shredded leaves and produced a small tornado which relocated a shed

Also a small supercell heading up the Sussex/Kent coast which produced large hail, a tornado/waterspout near Hastings and some really freaky conditions...April is usually a good month for hail (April showers) but you can get some real corkers even in the summer.

Still only small potatoes when compared to the monsters of the US.

4 people were killed including 2 small children by storms last night in Arkansas. There was a pretty crazy storm system yesterday.
