Help!

I have stupidly planned a couple of days in London for me and my girlfriend for Sunday/Monday without realising the bloody marathon is on!

We are coming from Chesterfield and heading to our hotel which is near Heathrow, are we likely to run into any difficulties doing that? Once we're checked in we were planning on getting the tube from Heathrow into London itself and do the standard touristy things, what difficulties will we face here?

what difficulties will we face here?
Physically being able to get onto a Piccadilly train? :p

Seriously though, might be worth checking out the Heathrow Connect. It'll cost more, but I doubt it will be as crowded to the extent that the Piccadilly line will be. If you're heading towards Covent Garden/Leicester Square like everybody else and their dog, you could walk down from Paddington to Marble Arch (~10mins) then rent some Boris Bikes and cycle your way around. Might be nice if the weather is decent.

The Piccadilly will be ok. The District/Circle will be crowded along the route.
If he's coming from Heathrow he'd be going on the Piccadilly though. It's bad enough let alone when there's an 'event' on! Mind you at the end of the line it'd probably be ok. I didn't even look where the marathon's going. Good links

We're travelling by car to heathrow, do you think we'll run into difficulties? Going sunday midday ish

Getting to Heathrow in the car will be the easy bit, I wouldn't worry about that.

Definitely fork out for the Heathrow Express to get into town, don't bother with the tube.

Also remember that a lot of the touristy places are walkable distances from each other, that way you can avoid using the tube as much as possible.

A hotel near Heathrow then tube into London is a disaster - why would you do this? It takes over an hour to get from central London to Heathrow on the tube!

You might as well have stayed in Winchester or Milton Keynes, its about the same amount of time on the train!

If you are going from Heathrow into town at least you 'should' get a seat... Picadilly Circus and Ox st shouldn't be too bad, but I wouldn't use the tube if you can help it.

What were you planning on doing? I would personally scrap St Pauls if that was on your list ;) and Canary Wharf and Greenwich.

I won't be able to leave my house till gone 10 I should think :/ as they all run past the bottom of my road!!! I should rent my place to runners as am walking distance from the start!
