The Witcher or DA:O

I LOVED The Witcher and was one of the minority singing it's praises early on, telling people to stick with it past the slow start and the rest of it's quirks. But I'm not really looking forward to playing it again and more fool me for doing it anyway, but I want a save to import and formatted away anything I had ages back.

Lack of classes, party or play-style, items or anything in the way of valid build options mean it's a one-time affair. Playing something to completion once for most people is more than acceptable, so it's not a major gripe, just one of the biggest of the big differences between DA:O and The Witcher.

I think it's entirely dependent on the person, I couldn't bring myself to play through DA:O unlike games like BG2, NWN etc. Anyway OP should definitely play both as they're great games.

This is true. Ignoring my opinion the stated differences might be a valid concern.

I would go for the witcher. I found it more easily accessible.

If you aren't the typical RPGhead, or want something to ease you into it. The Witcher wins hands down. Aside from it's slow start, it's definitely the more accessible of the two.

Having played both, I'd go for the Witcher (but as others say, don't let the early part or the graphics put you off).

I understand the comment about the early game as there's a hell of a lot of dialogue to listen to before anything happens but the graphics? I thought it was a great looking game for an RPG. Even on my replay it's still looking excellent and imo far prettier than the flat and low quality textures used in the Dragon Age games.

I've gone with Witcher thank you everyone :)

Enjoying it so far, just got past the opening bit if that makes sense. Gone down some pub and beat up some people which was fun :D

The mods - I literally just create an override folder in the data dir and dump the stuff in there? I don't need to turn it off/on?

I don't know if it had dated badly, but i don't see what all the fuss is about with The Witcher.
It has improved a bit, but it is very samey, and i couldn't care less about the characters/story. Also, people keep mentioning making hard decisions, but i'm around 8 hours in, and i haven't made any decisions other than agreeing or disagreeing with some people.
It is also a little too simplistic, and not very polished imo.

I struggle to see how someone can recommend it over DAO, but that's just me. I will stick with it for now anyway:)

"Your mum sucks Dwarf ****!" :p

I almost fell off my chair...

I found the Witcher Awesome, i've played it quite a few times.

DA:O, on the other hand, i've found impossible to get into. Biblical levels of tedium.

Just be aware that it's very slow to start. I didn't start seriously enjoying the game until Chapter II.

DA:O definitely didn't have the 10 traditional hours of attrition at the start that many rpgs do it moved them deeper into the game. Also the traipsing around was made more bearable by companion conversations. The Witcher does have random animals all over the shop though as long as your playing it at reasonably high settings.

I enjoyed Dragon age origins a lot more but the sequal is/was a let down.
Big learning curve for the first one though.
