Looks like a rather tasty piece of kit if I do say so myself, I am normally a Logitech fan but this really is nice :)

Why do all the backlit mechanical "gaming" keyboards use Cherry Blues? Popular opinion suggests Cherry Brown switches are better for gaming, yet there doesnt seem to be any backlit mechanical keyboards using these switches.

What do you know, registered over a year ago and haven't posted yet...

anyway try:
  • Zowie Celeritas for MX Brown switches
  • Mionix Z60 for MX Blacks
and a whole bunch of other non-gaming brands for high quality keyboards featuring all the Cherry Corp. MX keyswitch types.

I know of the celeritas and a host of other keyboards that use Cherry Browns, none of them are backlit.

why would brown be better? the difference between blue, black, brown, red (new) is only in taste and some in lifetime of the switch, but they're technically all good for gaming.
Personally I prefer Black

I know of the celeritas...
Ah well, if backlighting is critical for you then you may have to do it the hard way...

Maybe stump up the extra cash for non-UK import, or an 'industrial' specialist keyboard for low light environments (expect to pay 2-4x the price of these Razer/Mionix/Qpad keyboards)

Or get modding: get a cheap doner keyboard and transplant the stems and springs, or do some soldering and transplant the whole keyswitches, or add the LEDs to an unlit model (that may require more work with the PCB)

Cheapest solution is to learn to touch type in the dark, but there is also the option of having a tiny lamp over the keyboard - Razer used to sell the 'Battlelight' but I think a small LED strip on the edge of the desk above your keyboard shelf would work nicely. Otherwise a small lamp similar to the Razer to use on the desk.

actually, the LED's for the backlight are embedded in the keyswitch, it's not on the PCB as a seperate LED.

There is a little space on the MX keyswitch housing for a standard 3mm LED, and holes for the LED legs to poke through. The tricky bit is powering them...

well yeah, that's what I meant... :D

although if I really wanted to go through the trouble (and would be able to) for a cherry brown keyboard with backlight, i'd buy a Qpad MK-80 and a cherry brown keyboard, swap the switches and use Qpad's internals to power the backlight as well..
