Hi,

Going to be installing xbmc later and want to rip a couple of blu rays to my hard drive. What's the best software for doing this. Want to keep the file full quality so not looking at compressing it down etc

Cheers
Mark

MakeMKV if you're happy with just the main feature (you can still have multiple audio tracks but lose menus etc)

Or rip to ISO if you want the full menus and everything.

Dvd Fab is quite good. You can still use the dvd ripper after the trial has expired (Can't compress the dvds after but thats it) But the Blu-ray ripper won't read the disks after the trial has finished.

DVD Fab refused to rip lots of discs for me - even when it was up to date.

It also has an annoying interface. MakeMKV is dead simple, clean and it worked on every disc i have.

Plus it packages it nicely into an MKV instead of m2ts or wanting to compress.

just downloaded it .. how do you rip to iso ? i stck a disc in and just clicked on save ..

I'm now using makeMKV however I can't get xbmc to work with the files it won't let me add a library

i just rippeded a br to my pc ... default settings was videos ...

i managed to add it on xbmc using the videos section of it .. found it in library quite easily

xbmc - videos - add source - browesed to find my vidoe folder .. and just clicked add when i saw what i wanted .. in this case universal soldier

ok .. when i saved mine it went to computer / local disc (c) / video which when i used xbmc it found in that area and i just added it

did it save liek that for you ? and are you lookign in the right place ?

I made a new folder "movies" and ripped it there. I could find it in xbmc and add the folder as a source and even play the file in xbmc albeit juddery.

But that's it I cant add album art etc it's just a blue file and that's it as the next step to start making it look nice with album art is greyed out

try right-clicking on the film in the menu .. brings up other options ... ive nto tried adding images tbh .. not fussed

not sure why you got judder .. i'm ripping br .. your doing dvd :(

what pc you got ? specs

I use AnyDVD HD to remove the encryptions on the disc then I use CloneDVD to dump to my HDD. If I want to convert them to MKV or whatever then I use Handbrake.

Don't rip to MKV or whatever straight from disc it puts strain on your drive, it is better and generally faster to dump the entire disc to your HDD first then rip it from there this should help stop you from getting jerky playback.

That has to be a load of garbage. Ripping to MKV is just dumping the whole video stream from the disc to the drive. It'd be faster, as it's only copying the files necessary for the main content - not the extras.

If it's juddery on XBMC, you'll need to look at the specs of the PC and what hardware acceleration you have enabled.

I use MakeMKV on OS X, never tried it on Windows. I know the de-facto choice on Windows is AnyDVD HD.

Very nice apps

Does it matter about the file name?

It says playing title00.mkv

It's named Madagascar_escape_to_jungle.

I've checked three times this morning about the scraper/content still the library is greyed out

Yes! The filename is critical if you want to scrap the details! You need to name it according to IMDb, and put the year of the movie in the title.

In your example "Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa (2008).mkv"

(*it can't handle ":" so, replace it with a "-")

when you have the the name sorted ..... right click on it and select " scan for new content" .

after i set the scrapper to imdb and making sure i have the filename exactly matching the imdb one and i rescanned and it found the film and came up with a picture
