Urgent help needed! How to I stop Windows XP automatically restarting automatically after it has upd

I CANNOT let this machine restart, due to the fact that it's running the graphics for a live TV channel...

I'm getting the 15 minute countdown timer saying this computer will restart automatically in xx minutes... I click 'restart later' but this just delays the inevitable...

I've had this timer come up 3 times so far...

How on earth do I stop this?

Will disabling the Windows update service stop this?

Well, it's still coming up even though I've restarted explorer.exe

I'll have another look on google, hopefully there is some way of doing this...
 
Wait for a commercial break and hope no one notices :eek:

Or are you going to take it in shifts pressing the "Restart Later" button til you can?

No commercial breaks on this channel I'm afraid, if there were I would have rebooted it already.

The producer now knows about it, it seems to behaving itself for now after a few 'restart later's, I'm just about to finish my shift as well so all is good, for now at least. :)

Thanks for your help, having to deal with Windows on mission critical stuff like this can be pretty frustrating sometimes... :( Win7 seems far better in this regard...

^ Indeed, if this machine reboots, a whole TV channel goes off air, not exactly an ideal scenario... ;)

Hey, I didn't spec or build this system, I've just got to keep it up and running no matter what. :( A linux or Win7 based system would be much better in this role, but when you're tied down to certain hardware then you've just got to use whichever OS supports your hardware... :)

Still, it could be worse, remember Windows ME? :p

I've learnt plenty of XP's quirks over the years, but it's stuff like this that can keep you on your toes... ;)

That said, it seems to be fixed at least - for now! I still keep checking the machine when I get a chance.

I know it's wrong but "xp2 and "mission critical" without backup made me laugh. Disabling or rather not updating such an old and vulnerable os will almost certainly create more problems than updating it. If you don't update it bad things will happen, if you do update it bad things wil happen.

Indeed, this is a perfect example of 'catch 22'.

Still, it's been fine for 2 days now, I think I can relax a little now. :)
