Hi,

Well the car is due for it's service in the next month and I've been thinking about the upcoming service it will need. I've flicked through the service book and rather worryingly there's no record of an Inspection 2......EVER! The car has a full BMW service history so I'm hoping that it's just not been recorded properly, either way, I'll be rining the dealer to find out.

Anyway, worst case scenario is it needs the inspection 2. BMW quote £339 for this to be done on the car and I've been quoted £300 by a BMW specialist. Does the specialist quote seem about about right? If so, I'll just take it to Halliwell Jones I think. Also would BWM provide me with a courtesy car for the day if I took it to them?

It's been quite an expensive month so far:

2 x rear tyres: £330
MOT: £40
New front disks and pads: £255
Tax: £245

plus the possibility of an additional £340! :( I though these things were meant to be cheap to run! ;)

BMW quote sounds familiar from memory for BMW Value Servicing.

They might give you a courtesy car, or they might charge you for it. When I had mine done at Rybrook they said it would be a charge, but when I dropped it off they gave me one FOC.

Yes, thats the BMW Value Service price. They've recently increased it, it used to be £319.

No point messing around under the railway arches at the specialist for a 40 quid saving.

Thanks for the replies. While the car was in today I enquired about the Inspection 2 and it was last done 5 years ago (30k) so I'll get it booked in for this in the next few weeks. They were kind enough to offer a courtesy car for free too.

I have to admit, even though it is slightly more expensive at BMW, there is a lot to be said for being greeted with a smile, sitting down in a nice warm showroom and being able to watch TV whilst drinking gallons of free coffee. They certainly do offer a good service.

I got all of that at a Fiat garage lol.

I don't think the Fiat garage will be able to service his 330d.

I never said it could. He was stating that he gets the extra smiles/coffee from a BMW garage as if it's something you won't get at cheaper places. Which you do. A smile and a coffee is nout special.

He's talking about franchised dealer versus non franchised dealer surely, so therefore you'd expect the same at a Fiat main dealer

The difference here isnt BMW vs fiat. Its BMW vs backstreet garage. Your completely missing the point

Yeah, sorry. I wasn't saying BMW are any better than anyone else, just that at a franchised dealer the experience is much more pleasurable than the service you get at a typical indie.

Do BMW charge the same for all ranges? I know they do a different price for 4pot and 6 pot, but do they charge differently for e36/e46/e9x etc?

Need to get my e36 318is done soon.

Wow, you only ever get coffee in Belgium if you're buying a car.
Although a VW dealer around here does soup..

A smile and a coffee might not be anything special but a smile, coffee, biscuits, comfy sofas, TV and free wifi are a bit more special :p

Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick.
Just as a question, what brand of TV does your Fiat dealer use?

My BMW dealer has a B&O TV. Several grands worth. I like it, because it helps maintain a wonderful sense of pretentiousness. It's probably why they charge £180+ per hour of labour.
