buying an ex police car yes or no?

Pandas are your standard response vehicles that cops use and are usually serviced at longer intervals to save cash. They are also liked in, spat in, ****ed in, **** in and booted and head butted.

Traffic vehicles are generally better serviced, better driven and looked after better than above.

Traffic vehicles do pursue aye.

Best buy are generally ex driving school vehicles as they are looked after better than the above.

Will tells me you are a top bloke by the way :)

I was going to say, you will likely be buying a car that has had multiple cat d and c write offs although will have been fixed properly. I say go for it, why not?

For pandas, 100% categorically no, bad idea.

The cars are driven extremely hard, often straight from cold. If damage to the car is not obvious, there will almost certainly be some beneath the surface or on the underside of the car from collisions, flying over speed bumps and bumping up kerbs etc. Then there's the thought of prisoner transport in the rear seats, expect to find all manner of bodily fluids and horrible substances soaked up in the cloth, I wouldn't want my kids sitting in that.

As already stated, ex driving school cars are likely to be most cared for with ex traffic cars following in second place, they will still be subjected to the issues above however.

Driving schools as in going round skid pans etc or Volvos etc they train traffic cops on the road in?

The latter mostly. They should be a seriously good buy, high miles but very well serviced and driven hard but sympathetically. They will always have had a police instructor in them.

One of the rally cars Dad prepped was an ex traffic car, it got a little quicker each time they had to replace a panel, simple because the old panel was mostly filler.

hang on lets think about this ..... i could have a car killed to death every day of its life and save a few quid, or i could have a normal car.....

that will be right :)

saw one last year with the police training stickers on it with the side all caved in on the A92 :)

Surely they still get hammer though. Remember seeing a police car fly round a corner and if i was closer would have taken me out, was another close behind it who was a lot better, not sure if they were training though...

Hmmm, somehow the image of rookie plod learning pursuit and j-turns etc doesn't quite seem to go with my understanding of the term 'sympathetically driven'. :) :p
