According to multiple reports today, Nintendo will reveal a new console at E3 this coming June.

Game Informer first reported that the console is capable of running games at "HD resolutions." Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market. Another source said it is capable of 1080p resolutions.

Nintendo is reportedly showing the console to publishers to garner interest for a late 2012 launch.

Additional sources tell IGN that Nintendo will release a pre-announcement this month with a full reveal expected at E3 and that the console will be backwards compatible with current Wii software.

OMG. Maybe this will get Sony and MS's arses into gear and bring us something by holiday 2013 instead of holiday 2015.

Not really a stretch considering the amount of money Nintendo have for R&D because of wii sales, unlike the amount they had after the gamecube.

What im not to sure on is the E3 reveal for a late 2012 launch the 16 months they will need to wait and this will give people a chance to copy them.

Its more likely going to be a tease with a full reveal at E3 2012

Dear god i hope this is true we can now get rid of the term hardcore gamer.

Just because you buy a GTA game that does not make you a hardcore gamer

Wont matter, i bet the controller will be trash for hardcore gamers and the game selection will be poor.

like the 3DS titles?

Resident evil, Mario, Zelda, professor layton, Pilotwings, Street fighter, Ridge Racer, Starfox, Lego starwars/pirates of the carribean, steeldiver, dead or alive, driver, splinter cell, ghost recon.. All within the first few months of it's release.

Though I'd agree with the controller scheme, they will have to pull something spectacular out their backside.

Microsoft and Sony are arse deep in Kinect and Move in a stagnating economy. They can't afford to produce new consoles and we can't afford to buy them.

Nintendo made a shedload of money on the DS and Wii from day one, so they have considerably more room to beat the market by introducing something more powerful than their competitors current offerings at an affordable price.

To add to that, as far as consoles go, certainly in terms of the Playstation 3 and Xbox360 they are the best consoles have ever been.

Realistically the only improvement we can currently have is graphics and perhaps in the Xbox's case increased storage on the disc itself. There is really no reason for consumers to need an upgrade right now and for at least a couple more years.

Nintendo is lagging behind a little and although the term 'hardcore gamer' gets banded about, I own a Wii and I do find it quite boring and a different experience to the other two. I think they just have to be careful that they offer compatibility with Wii products and also watch that they just launched a new handhold console which will compete for people's cash.

My other thought is that a new Nintendo console is likely to mean the same old...

- New Mario Game
- New Zelda Game
- New Metroid Game
- New Wii Sports Game

I think they would be wise to get some exclusive new franchises behind themselves, certainly if you wanted me to buy the console.

Nintendo will never recapture the hardcore market, it's too late, you either have a PS3, 360 or PC.

For example, IW won't make a new COD just for this new console, it will be on the 360, PS3 etc too.

Maybe, but historically Nintendo machines are poorly supported by the big multi-plat companies / titles.
